There's no denying that Dunn strikes out a lot, and that strikeouts are frustrating, especially when a fly ball or well-placed grounder can score a run. But why fixate on such a specific, rare occurrence, when Dunn is one of the best hitters in the game, period.

June 18, 200719 yr It started with poor location on the whiffle ball curve. Hang that bad boy and watch it fly the other way. My guess is that he's been using more fastballs to make up for the curve problems and it's lead to a tired arm. I also think the May schedule had more to do with this than the 129 pitch start. There was only 1 off day in over a month, so there was no extra rest built in. Might as well let him skip the off day and get the 10 day rest to see if the problem corrects itself... Not sure if using his fastball more is leading to a tired arm, throwing curveballs is more taxing on an arm than are fastballs. He hasnt had the juice on his fastball in a few starts. Pitch counts can be somewhat deceiving. Up to the SD start his pitch count was 120, 117, 129. Since then he hasn't gone 7 innings. Therefore he has been throwing in excess of 20 to 30+ per inning, and that in itself is taxing. He never was a real high pitch count guy at Boston, more 90's to low 100's. Roughly only 8 times in two years with the BoSox did he exceed 110+ pitch game, yet still went over 200 innings. Days off or lackthereof could be an issue, but he hasnt been right for a while. I hate to hear the term dead arm with a Reds pitcher because usually surgery is to follow when that happens.

It's not an arm taxing tight curve, but more of a flip to the plate. Location of that pitch is what started his slide. The velocity has followed...

Bronson was asked if he had a problem if he were pushed back, and gave a great answer: "The way I threw last season, I had a right to say I wanted to pitch every five days or whatever. Aaron still has the right to say that. I don’t have the right to say anything. I’ve had five out of six horse (crap) outings, so I don’t have a right to say anything. I pitch when they give me the (freaking) ball."

I pitch when they give me the (freaking) ball." Arroyo threw the ball a lot last year in the 2006 season, and didnt he pitch in the Japanese Tour this winter? Maybe his arm just hasnt responded to the 2006 season, plus the offseason in Japan. I would love to see a breakdown of pitches per inning in his starts since that San Diego outing. One thing to run a guy out there when is throwing well and having quick innings than it is to run a guy out there who is gassed. But then again, is Arroyo pitching to the back of his baseball card?

Also asked if trade talk bothered him, "No, because there’s nothing I can do about it. People make a lot bigger deal out of it than I do."

He can take comfort in knowing that wherever he goes he will be getting AT LEAST 10-15 million a year probably.
