Tubby needs to take responsibility!

Featured Replies

I wish I did have something to do with it but I don't think I'm that influential. My point is that fans like yourself continue to put this guy on a pedestal and all he did was ruin your basketball program, negotiate for another job while his current team floundered, and rob the bank on the way out the door. Yet somehow or another he is a great guy. Now there is a class act.

You want to say something like that, and say Tubby is not a class act. Yet your name on here and your avatar has a picture of Pitino, and I guess you think he is all class then....

So Tubby's agent knew six weeks ago, without talking to Tubby at all, that Tubby was interested in the job?

I've never questioned Tubby's honesty, but this is fishy.

Tuesday its not a thought in his mind, and Wednesday he's leaving the winningest program in college basketball, taking a pay cut, and moving to a school with no history whatsoever?

I think maybe before the season Tubby might have told his agent to just quietly look around, in case maybe he left or if he was fired he could land somewhere quick. But IMO I dont think he actually knew who his agent was talking to or how serious that talks were, but just that he told his agent to quietly look around just in case something did happen...

He has left UK in shambles. Look at the remaining roster and it wasn't the fan's fault. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Tubby Smith. He did more damage to UK basketball than imaginable and took and extra $1,500,000 on his way out the door. Apparently his representitives have been negotiating with Minnesota since the middle of February. I believe at the time he was still pretending to coach the UK basketball team. Then just a week ago he stated infactically that he planned to return next year. One last misleading comment for the road. Kind of like "we are going to play more up tempo", or "there will be major changes". What a great guy.

For all of you that supported him and continue to support him remember he quit you. He negotiated behind your back and left your program with a roster full of mid major players. 1 senior, no juniors, solid sophmores, and an incoming class of a 7' project, and a 3* forward.

I said in December of 2005 on this board that he was driving the program in the ground and I was right. I'm not particularly happy about it but it turned out to be true. I'm personally glad to see him of incomplete sentences, once intimidating but now blank stares, and out of style blue dress shirts with white collars ride of to the Siberia that is Minnesota. Best of luck coach you have left a mess for your successor but a least you got your bonus.

One last time SCRUBB THE TUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What ever quiets the voices in your head

I thinkTubby was a great representative for the program and a class act. That said,I also believe that changes had to be made. No ONE person is bigger than the program itself. AND whatever is BEST for the program is what we need to be concerned with.Good Luck to Tubby..now let's worry about finding someone to bring the PROGRAM back to National Prominence!

Only once in history has a coach left the UK program in worse shape. That would be "Fast Eddie" Sutton. Since Tubby is the 1st coach ever to leave UK voluntarily to go to another college, he should be judged on how he left the program. I haven't read one post that claims Tubby is leaving UK in good shape. Quite the contrary. The new coach will be faced with a monumental rebuilding phase. Nobody else responsible for that than Tubby himself.

Tubby's stubborness is partly to blame for leaving UK worse than he found it. He needed to get rid of his assistants but he was to stubborn (or loyal if you want to call it) to do it and right the ship. He could have turned it around but he was to stubborn to get a new staff that could help him do it. Tubby was not ran off from UK. He would have had another year to get a new staff an get the program headed in the right direction but he didnt want to. So yeah I think he should be held responsible for some of it.

First off bud you don't know what I think or how I feel about Tubby. I'm not blindly loyal to Tubby because he was the coach at UK. Tubby is a good coach and ran a very solid and honest program. But he made mistakes and he isn't above being questioned. He is make a whole bunch of money to win and that just wasn't happened in the past few years. Tubby has only hisself to blame for that. He is ultimately responsible for recruiting and results. He was asked to make changes to his staff and choose to leave instead. Fine by me don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. UK basketball is bigger then any one coach or recruit. UK will be ok. At the same time for you, who was one of Tubby's biggest haters, to suggest him in the wrong in any way for leaving is comical. Your stance on this subject is sad and this thread is sad. You got what you wanted but know you have nothing to cry about. That is just pathetic.

Tubby doesn't have to do anything that involves UK... He isn't the coach anymore. ;)

I won't lay into Tubby as much as RickyP did, but he is right. Tubby left us pretty cold and was talking to MN for weeks. There was clearly evidence. But then again nothing is ever his fault according to the T.L.'s.

I will still stick by; Tubby knew Morris was out the door, Tubby new of the alleged Crawford problems, and Tubby darn well knew he had nothing coming into to fix it or get us anywhere next year. He packed his bags and ran.

And you guys wanted him fired... He quit, you got exactly what you wanted... He's gone. Don't expect anything more from the guy.

Tubby did what you and many others wanted. He left. Now that he did, you guys are complaining about the fallout.

Morris directly stated that Tubby leaving played a big role in him leaving. The Crawford situation is pure speculation with 0 truth behind it at this point.

It's really not that hard to comprehend.

Morris showed us what he thought of Tubby his freshman year. Morris has been wanting to get paid for 3 years now. He finally played his way onto an NBA roster.

Morris himself said that Tubby leaving was a major reason he left. To say he was definitely gone and that was a reason Tubby left in inaccurate according to what Morris has said.
