March 25, 200719 yr He has left UK in shambles. Look at the remaining roster and it wasn't the fan's fault. The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Tubby Smith. He did more damage to UK basketball than imaginable and took and extra $1,500,000 on his way out the door. Apparently his representitives have been negotiating with Minnesota since the middle of February. I believe at the time he was still pretending to coach the UK basketball team. Then just a week ago he stated infactically that he planned to return next year. One last misleading comment for the road. Kind of like "we are going to play more up tempo", or "there will be major changes". What a great guy. For all of you that supported him and continue to support him remember he quit you. He negotiated behind your back and left your program with a roster full of mid major players. 1 senior, no juniors, solid sophmores, and an incoming class of a 7' project, and a 3* forward. I said in December of 2005 on this board that he was driving the program in the ground and I was right. I'm not particularly happy about it but it turned out to be true. I'm personally glad to see him of incomplete sentences, once intimidating but now blank stares, and out of style blue dress shirts with white collars ride of to the Siberia that is Minnesota. Best of luck coach you have left a mess for your successor but a least you got your bonus. One last time SCRUBB THE TUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 25, 200719 yr Tubby is a great guy and didn't deserve to be treated the way he was here. I don't blame him one bit for bolting like he did. I wish him the best!
March 25, 200719 yr I don't blame him. The writing has been on the wall, why wouldn't he attempt to secure employment when he knew the ax was coming down?
March 25, 200719 yr I wish him the best too. With that being said we have had some crap players as of late. I really hope they bring somebody in that brings in some big recruits with him.
March 25, 200719 yr You sound like the guy on Cats Pause that said Tubby only gave a free ride to Harris to screw the new coach out of a scholarship next year. I believe that Tubby is above purposely trying to harm the UK program.

I believe that Tubby is above purposely trying to harm the UK program. Never said it was on purpose. Heck, I don't think he is that smart. It would have taken a truly diabolical mind to have done the amount of damage he did on purpose.
March 25, 200719 yr Author Nice avatar by the way. :sssh: When you have friends like mine you don't need enemies.
March 25, 200719 yr IMO, Tubby could have stayed at UK. He could have fired and hired a few assistants, said a lot of things that make the fans happy and hung in there for a few more years. I think he just got tired of being the UK coach. I think he knows that Coach Stansbury got it right. He had a hand in the decline at UK, but it isn't totally his fault. I think he threw a high fastball past Barnhart by plotting to leave as far back as December. He made Barnhart look like a fool and I think he kind of enjoyed it.
March 25, 200719 yr I find it funny when espn and others say the fans are crazy and drove him away. 10 years is being pretty patient if you ask me.
March 25, 200719 yr Well..................I doubt Tubby did all this on purpose. However, that being said from an outside perspective he has lowered the program several notches the last few years and it is only going to get worse if he didn't leave. Kind of like the previous NC coach....success the first year and all down hill after that
March 25, 200719 yr I guess its safe to say you wont be posting in the "Official Tubby thank-you thread"
