Miss Basketball

Featured Replies

Again, IMO, I don't think the state tournament will have any affect on the outcome of the voting. I think there were enough votes casted prior to the state tourney to determine who wins.

If I remember correctly, Arnika Brown did not even make it to the regional tourney last yr and she won. Carly Omerod won and got beat the first rnd of the districts. So, that is why I say it has been determined prior to state.

JayBilas, can you shed any light on how Miss Basketball is suppose to be considered, whether it be for Sr yr only or career?

Have there not been winners who won Mr. or Miss Basketball as juniors? Wasn't Chris Lofton a Mr. Basketball as a junior? Obviously, it would not be based on a career if he still had a year left. My opinion is that it should be based on this year.

I thought the award was for seniors only.

Mr./Miss Basketball go to seniors only. Lofton's team won the state title when he was a junior.

You are correct that Lofton won it his senior year only.

Other states award Mr. Basketball to players that are not juniors. LeBron James won it 3 times in Ohio. I thought Kentucky was the same way. I guess the award is really Mr. or Miss (Senior) Basketball. While very rare, there are times when a junior is better than the senior candidates. But the award then lends itself to being for a career if it is only for seniors.

London on leadership alone. Nothing at the state tournament equals beating Catholic twice in a week, once on their home floor. She makes everybody on her team better. You compare shots taken to the other leaders and I think you find London is a more effective scorer also.

She certainly has the advantage of quite possibly the best supporting cast in the state...and she made them even better. Well done, Emily London...and good luck to you in the Miss B voting. You are most deserving and what a fine way it would be to end an even finer season.

That would be odd, to have a Miss Basketball that was not even considered the best player in her region, by the coaches in her region.
It happened on the boys side in 2001, when Josh Carrier was Mr. Basketball and Brandon Stockton, then a junior, was voted the 4th Region's player of the year by the coaches.

Also Neltner was Mr Basketball but Doellman was POY in the 9th.

In both cases, the regional coaches got it right.

London certainly has a good case. She is a player I would want on my team

They sure didn't this year in the 16th Region. They must of been sick of Queen beating them not to have voted for her. I know she dominated our Kittens in the district.

This may sound typical but I do not believe that the two best players in the state played on Saturday at diddle.

You may very well be right, and I won't argue the point.

But I have to admit that I (like some others here, I suspect) get tired of some of the Rose Hill people hinting at a conspiracy every time one of their own doesn't get an award they feel is deserved. After a while, the "wolf cry" wears a bit thin ...
