Who else approached Emily Queen, college wise.

I forgot one most important accomplishment, Bee also holds a 3.8 GPA

I hesitate to reply, but I'm going to assume honest intentions on your part. So in answer to your question...UK, WKU, EKU, Georgia, Vandy, Cincinnati, Davidson...and a host of others. Emily chose MTSU because...as I do...she believes they have the best coaching staff, kids she likes and wants to play with (she adores Chelsia Lymon...as do her mother and I...as well as the current freshman and '07 signees), believed (at the time...not so now) that they are under the radar and going places (a challenge she liked), had the best academic support system....and simply put was not looking for the biggest name program, but for the best people and place to spend four of the most important years of her life.

Oh, alright, I'll play along...Emily holds an almost identical GPA and has taken AP and Honors classes for the past two years.

We'd better stop with the periphery or we'll be comparing Homecoming pictures.;)

Both are superb athletes and fantastic bball players. My determining factor does not depend on stats but their performances against the teams they are playing. I am not convinced that over the yrs Emily, if I may, played the talent that Bee played every night. As I stated earlier, look how many good teams RH beat, two in the last week w/ECarter and Russell, that is it. They got drilled by all other good teams they played.

Someone was speaking of supporting cast, for the last couple yrs Bee has had great teammates to play w/as has Emily but this yr I think Emily having Terry to play w/beats out Bee's teammates, although they jelled well together.

Statistically, they are very similar which would have me say Co-Miss Basketball but that's not how it works, unfortunately. W/all Bee's acalades it would be hard to vote against her w/Queen getting my second place vote.

I know the 16th is loaded w/talent but I would be willing to bet that Gray wins POY in the 11th! If Queen is that good and you all are making a case for her to win Miss Bball, how did the coaches in your region not vote for her?

Well said...and I appreciate the effort to be objective.

As for stats, I would add the following (to use the format used earlier for Rebecca Gray):

Queen: 2882 pts, 1499 rebounds, 365 steals and 309 assists...with a four year record of 68-42. Of note, is a State Runner-Up finish in that total...and 14 fewer games than what Gray has played. Some simple extrapolation (which I think would be justified using Emily's consistent 4 year averages...see my earlier post...a double-double for 4 years is no small acheivement) and you get a fair idea of her ability to produce on both ends of the floor.

As for your last point about the coaches in the area...I would suggest that you reserve judgment until the ADI/Coaches POY comes out.

Finally, I must add for the sake of those readers who follow this but aren't aware of it how much Emily and Rebecca enjoyed their brief opportunity to meet and play together last summer. The entire discussion for me...and I'm repeating portions of previous posts here...is animated, not by an attempt to disparage a player or take away from her acheivements, but rather to expose just how poor all the reporting on the matter up until now has been. This notion of one player being so superior relative to her peers that no others should be considered viable candidates is nonsense...and it is unfair to the '07 class as well as Rebecca Gray herself. It is for that reason that I appreciate all the more your efforts to make valid and reasonable comparisons. I wish we could hear similar information on the other top players in the state.

Did Grays team win their regional this year?

Did Grays team win their regional this year?

And this matters how?

himmelfarb, I try to be sincere and you take it as sarcasm. I am not from either region, as you are. I think it is great how the 16th region fans stand by their players but it always seems to be one sided and because of geographics your area always gets the raw end of the deal.

bbjunkie, are you suggesting just because RH is a private school that is why Fortman won POY due to her going to a public school. That, IMO, is very narrow minded thinking. I am guessing you are from the 16th region so you have seen Fortman play as I have. She put on a one women show the day I saw her and feel she is probably well deserving of the POY award. Awards are like playing the game, someone always has to lose.

You might want to consider revising your remarks. When and it what post did I take your comments as sarcasm? I bent over backwards to compliment you.

Yeah it does matter, Emily put her team on her back the last two regional games and carried them to victory. Not a slam to her teammates, they played great but Queen showed the Region who the best was during tourney time. I dont know how one can be considered, if they dont make the big dance.

Possibile to have co-Miss Basketballs??

Queen and Grey should share the honors!

No!!! Absolutely not, then you get into that 12 valedictorian stuff that most high schools have got into. Their is one best player in the state, somebody is just going to have to buy an extra box of kleenex. That is just the way life is. Like one president, one CEO, one MJ...

Cute, but trust me...with what the process has become, the kleenex box will be saved for something of genuine importance...like a well made commercial about a little lost puppy.

Sorry, I went to Russell and played football, basketball, and ran track. I don't live in the 16th, but in the 10th. I'm not saying Fortman isn't a nice player, but obviously around the state their is a certain prejudice against the private schools. I just find it hard to believe the all time rebounder and scorer in the 16th isn't POY. I don't have a dog in the fight my daughter played in the 10th, graduated last year, and plays in college. I have coached high school sports for 24 years, and do feel I have a handle on the situation.

Not enough light during the day to get into this private/public thing but I will say I am not for any of the splitting the two apart into seperate divisions. I am at a public school and enjoy beating the private schools each yr, the rivalry is great for the kids and community.

We will find out sooner or later who will win Miss Basketball and it is not up to any of us. The worse thing is that some of the people voting probably haven't even seen the top 5 players in the state play.

If RH was in the 11th they would not be going to the "Big Dance"

That would be odd, to have a Miss Basketball that was not even considered the best player in her region, by the coaches in her region.

Good post 3ptshooter. I think this quoted statement is one that everybody should be able to agree on.

Ignorant - lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified

Thanks 2Cents! As for Queen not getting the 16th POY, I have been enlightened by several members of BGP. From this info it is ashame that the region is blinded by the private/public contraversy, however, as I have already said, Ms. Fortman is well deserving of the POY award and I am sure it could have gone either way. Another thing, reading in another thread, RH does not pay their dues to make their players eligible for the awards. This is an internal problem and the parents should go to the A.D. and take care of this, if what I am reading is true.
