If you are voting this CAL team is NOT the best small school team, then please share your thoughts on what team you think should hold that title. I would love to read that.

  • CAL fans should pump the brakes before saying they can handle Trinity as well as the Moellers, Andersons, CBC's, Cincy X's, etc on the Trinity schedule. Checking the CAL schedules for the last 5 year

CAL would give Trinity a game if not win on a perfect night.

If small school is referring to Classes 1A-3A I would say yes. When I typically think of small school, I think in terms of 1A and 2A. For the second question, I'm not sure if anyone in the state would play within 21 points of them or beat them this season except Trinity.

3A is not a small school. Play Beechwood.

If they played, CAL would dominate Beechwood IMO.

CAL has more top end talent than anyone in the state. Trinity has more depth and more very good players. I'd love to see that game.

When I look at this, a similar thing could have been said about Anderson which had probably more top end talent. Yet Trinity took care of them rather easily too. CAL is great, but I think Anderson would have done similar things to teams that CAL beat as well, but yet Trinity is a whole other monster and showed that when they beat Anderson.

Best small school in KY history? I mean as of right now they are the best, but I would say teams like Beechwood and Mayfield would have an argument for best all time small schools.

Beechwood and Mayfield probably had teams that could be included in the conversation.

I agree but I am only talking about the 2026 CAL team being the best team.

If we want to discuss the best overall program, that's another discussion altogether. And Mayfield and Beechwood would be high on that list while CAL would not appear.

CAL being 3A would be a medium school rather than small school but using the criteria 3A and below definitely one of the best ever.

I understand now. I thought you were referring to all time. I would say there is a legitimate argument that this may be the best team in 3A or below since the 6 class system began. I can not thing of a particular team, but it would likely come from the two I mentioned.

I like 2016 Belfry as one of the best small schools I've ever seen. Had one loss and that was to Knoxville Catholic. 2015 Belfry was loaded as well.

Funny thing is that so many of these kids from CAL and Trinity train together in the offseason at Aspirations. Many of them are actually pretty good friends and some of them played together on the Louisville Chargers youth team that finished as national runner-up before they went their separate ways starting in middle school. I feel very comfortable in saying that other than maybe Baylor, CAL would be the best team that Trinity would face this year if they were on Trinity's schedule. That includes Moeller, Anderson, Christian Brothers, etc. If the two teams played 10 times, Trinity goes 8-2 or 7-3.

Who were they national runner-up to and how close was it?

I agree that it is difficult to classify CAL as a small school, given that it is a private school based in Louisville.
