The flops and constant whining/lobbying for calls is totally irritating. The nature of the sport allows a player to flop around on the ground for 30 seconds without having to worry about it hurting hi

US Goalkeeping

That misplay on goal 3 was as bad as it gets, embarrassingly bad.

But 4 guys standing around letting a pop up drop in the box was almost as bad.

Three of Belgium's 4 goals were amateurish mistakes by the US.

When that happened on the standing around, that was when I knew we were well and truly cooked. They did not meet the moment.

The last goal would get a healthy amount of hate too if not for the third goal gaffe. Which legitimately in all these years of watching soccer, I don’t know if I’ve seen a worse error by a US keeper.

I have it all figured out.  If Americans would start calling it fútbol instead of soccer, some of these other countries might let us win once in awhile.

From a Facebook Friend of mine:

Ok - well a couple thoughts on the World Cup meltdown by the USMNT last night.

First of all they were outplayed, out poised and out classed - no excuses. After all the hype about Balogun - he was a non factor, Pulisic overall had a lousy WC tournament and Freese (the GK) - even a former hack goalie like me knows if you leave your line that far and are under pressure for a ball you go at it like its a kamikaze mission to clear that ball - you don't stop, you don't mess around you clear the ball and get back and he turfed it resulting in the backbreaker - USA got the result it deserved - full stop.

USA, Canda and Mexico - all 3 host countries are out and overall from what I can see have done a good job hosting the WC, foreign visitors have had fun, social media has been fun - but somehow, someway we managed to screw it up....only teams left I really like are England and Norway and they play each other next which kind of stinks for me....anyway...there's my take on the game and such from someone who played the game, learned from really quality players and hope we can learn from it and get the good vibes back.

You can't have a 38 year old, MLS centerback and expect to compete against the top 10 teams.

I enjoyed watching it at the beach w/ my son and son in law. The drama was entertaining and certainly a change of pace. Now, it is football season.

One thing you have to admit. Those guys can sure recover quickly from a horrendous injury. ?

I do get annoyed at the catastrophic injuries! My son and I were talking during a match the other day about the amount of running during a game. Sport science surveys says most high level soccer players run 6-8 miles per match, which is a lot. I decide that if I ran 6 miles and you came up and kicked my shin, I'd probably lay down and wallow for a minute myself!

3/4 of the semis are set, Spain, France and England are through.

Argentina currently with a 1-0 lead on Switzerland at 15'

Argentina is good, but holy cow have they been lucky. Easier draws, VAR shenanigans… a lot breaking their way.

I have enjoyed the World Cup, but thank goodness for rewind and fast forward via Altafiber. I was able to watch the entire matches when the US played but on these other matches, I have to fast forward through stretches and stop/rewind when I see some real action like corner kicks, goals, etc. I just cannot handle the possession passing back and forth near mid field. The killing of clock time when a team has a lead late also. Boooorrrring ....

That doesn't bother me.   No different than an NFL team with a 3 TD lead running plays up the middle for a few drives.
