I'm not entirely sure when this began, some of these issues could've been there pre-Koz but in the last couple years it has snowballed. Whatever some of those issues are (culture, energy, lack of development, etc) they are issues that are being seen/felt by the middle school feeders.

I think it’s the fact that we can’t retain kids from the junior high program. A lot of the kids are either going to NCC Cov Cath and Highlands. A lot of the kids wanna go to that Have a chance to win a state championship. Overall, I believe that Brossart is a good school and growing a football program. But what holds them back is just the lack of football knowledge and the retention of kids. I do think the players they have on the team are raw and need development. But they do have some really good players coming back! But it’s hard when kids start playing either 1-2 years in Jr High and make the jump to high school.

  • Jacob Martin, Pendleton County Defensive Coordinator and former Brossart assistant under Coach Wiggins, has been named head coach. He graduated Brossart 2017.

  • Scott Wise would be a great hire for Brossart. Played and I believe won a State Title at Highlands, Played football and earned a Economics Degree from College of Holy Cross in Worcester Massachusetts.

  • I hope he or whomever is ok.

That wasn’t happening before Wiggins was let go. His last two seasons there he had 52 players and 48 players on his roster.

Scott Wise would be a great hire for Brossart. Played and I believe won a State Title at Highlands, Played football and earned a Economics Degree from College of Holy Cross in Worcester Massachusetts. Currently Varsity Line Coach at Brossart and just took the job as Director of Advancement at Brossart, after a 14 year career at Fidelity Investments. It would hard for anyone to find a bigger or better person for Brossart.

I am very eager to see how many applicants would apply for this job! Definitely needs to be someone with experience and to work with limited numbers.

I do think Wise could be a landmark hire. I think he carries the knowledge required for the job. He's got an "in" with the feeder system. I like the idea of this possibility.

The question is, does he have the time. We all know that being a HS football coach is more than a full time job. He'd need to assemble a dedicated staff. And he'd need the backing/funding from the administration to make some of these things a possibility.

Apologies for my ignorance, what is the role of Director of Advancement?

Is there a commitment issue with the administration towards football? If so that would be a big deterrent to taking on the HC's full responsibility.

The Director of Advancement aides the administration in being the face of the school. Where the students and the principal are oftentimes thought of as the face of the school, the advancement director works with the administration on garnering relationships with parents, alumni and donors. They're also largely responsible for fundraising efforts (fundraising is a HUGE aspect of making Catholic high schools move forward), and they have a lot to do with general marketing and communication coming from the school. It's a very important role.

It is a huge responsibility in the Catholic Schools.

So big and time consuming that I wouldn’t think it would allow someone to be a Head Football Coach?

Depending on the opinion of the principal...it may be too time consuming for them to allow their Director of Advancement also be the head football coach.

Based on what I've seen of things at Cov Cath, I've got to think if a Catholic high school principal is sitting and asking himself/herself "Would I rather my Director of Advancement also be the football coach or would I rather they were not?" the answer to that would pretty quickly and easily be "not."

Has anyone heard on how many people have applied for the Brossart Job? Eager to see how all NKY teams go about how quick they will move to get a coach in the building.

Not a Catholic school, but I seem to remember Stefan LeFors holding a similar position when he was the coach at Christian Academy-Louisville. For any private school who has to work to get and keep students this would seem like a pivotal job, but also a job well suited to many of the strengths of a coach.

The good guys don’t keep walking away. They messed up when they fired Coach Wiggins. Hope the powers to be are happy with the new direction the Brossart football program is headed.

It was rumored that they believed they were getting a home run hire when they fired an extremely good coach.  Didn't happen.  The program has good youth numbers and make championship games. I'm interested in who is in the search.

The aforementioned EE held a similar position at New Cath when he was head coach. It really comes down to the support staff around the Dir of Advancement.  If he/she has a good, full-time assistant, I don't see an issue with handling both roles.

I definitely agree that it CAN be a position held by a head coach. I guess what it comes down to is that I wouldn't say it's really ideal for a head coach of a major sport to also be a Director of Advancement. But we're not in an ideal world, so sometimes things like that are concessions that will be made.
