Joe Chirico is next door and has ties their too. Jim McKee has a lot of ties to area but I’d be shocked if he left Scott co. Dan Gooch also still in the area.

Got to believe the Jimmys and Joes are walking those hallways.  The school is too big, the facilities are there, the tradition ran rampant in the old Mt. Sterling days before the merger… where or why are those athletes not carrying on in bigger ways?

They always have good basketball at Montgomery and baseball has had some solid years, too. Are there enough athletes? Do they share?

Why would Chirico leave GRC for Montgomery County?  The only thing I can think of is having an easier district and being in Class 5A.

...and, that's all relative.  Every class out there has their 'Big Green Monster's' + a few more, give or take year depending, that have things on lockdown.

Districts change now every two years. Some times, they change alot.  Maybe I should have thought about that more, but I never gave it alot of thought when taking a job. I was always taking a job for the long haul and had the mindset that we have to focus on us being the best we can be.

The one class that is different is 6A. There is no other animal in KY HS Football like St. X & Trinity. You have to take that into consideration if going to a 6A school.

I agree that it is all relative...to a point.  But 6A's big three is probably a little bit bigger than the other classes.  50, I think, State titles amongst them.

Not sure when the new consolidated Carter Co is opening but that should keep Montgomery tied to the east side of 5A. Maybe they get moved in with Scott co eventually idk. But 6A is brutal about any way you dice it. GRC has super nice stuff but is definitely at a disadvantage in 6A.

Based on the recent investment in Toyota and the growth of Georgetown, I don't see Scott County in 5A much longer.

Slightly off topic but when do they release the proposed district changes and when do they become final?

Have they said they are going to continue with the new class/district alignments every two years, or is there still the possibility that they might go back to their traditional four-year alignment cycles? I know the initial cause for the two-year realignment cycle was the whole bugaboo caused by issues with documented enrollment during COVID and the repeat year that went into effect after COVID, so I know they split up what would have otherwise been the 2023-2026 football realignment into a 2023-2024 realignment and then a 2025-2026 realignment. I don't remember ever hearing official word from the KHSAA that they're going to stick with the two-year cycles moving forward...but that doesn't mean they may not have said at some point or another that they plan on doing so.

Based on the timelines from the past 4 football realignments, it looks like the KHSAA tries to have their initial draft of the realignment released to the member schools for their review a year and a half before initial kickoff of the first season under the new alignment. There was a definite hiccup there for the 2023-2024 alignment because they were trying to work around the fact that they were left with incomplete enrollment numbers from the Board Of Education for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years due to all of the COVID stuff. Assuming they stick with their generalized 18 month lead time for the draft of the next alignment, though, that means we should see something coming out for proposed districts for the next alignment roundabout their January 2026 Board Of Control meeting...so about 2 months from now.

KHSAA Football Alignment 2015-2018 Seasons
- Proposed draft released by KHSAA on 27 Jan 2014
- Final BOC-approved alignment released by KHSAA on 13 May 2014
- Draft issued 19 months prior to 2015 kickoff, approved release issued 16 months prior.

KHSAA Football Alignment 2019-2022 Seasons
- Proposed draft released by KHSAA on 21 Feb 2018 (18 months before 2019 kickoff)
- Final BOC-approved alignment released by KHSAA on 9 May 2018 (16 months before 2019 kickoff)
- Revised due to COVID-19 pandemic on 20 Oct 2020
- Draft issued 18 months prior to 2019 kickoff, approved release issued 16 months prior.

KHSAA Football Alignment 2023-2024 Seasons
- I don't know for sure, but I believe it was after their July 2022 Board Of Control meeting that the KHSAA announced that rather than conducting their typical realignment for the upcoming 4 football seasons (2023-2026), they would instead be conducting an alignment that would be in place for 2 seasons (2023-2024) and then realign again for 2 seasons (2025-2026) after that.
- Proposed draft released by KHSAA on 5 Dec 2022
- Final BOC-approved alignment released by KHSAA on 18 Jan 2023
- Draft issued 9 months prior to 2023 kickoff, approved release issued 8 months prior.

KHSAA Football Alignment 2025-2026 Seasons
- Proposed draft released by KHSAA on 20 Feb 2024
- Final BOC-approved alignment released by KHSAA on 9 May 2024
- Draft issued 18 months prior to 2025 kickoff, approved release issued 16 months prior.

Usually it will be spring , one year in advance. It would be spring of 2026 for this next one.

Has Montgomery County hired Coach Chirico?

5 A is arguably the weakest class (Top 10 teams in a class) in KY at the current time. Chances of making a run are much better in 5A than in 6A.

Not officially.  But he resigned from GRC yesterday.
