Yeah, that scoreboard out there is impressive and they have a pretty good field.:thumb:

I loved playing at Corbin, and Pikeville definitely has one of the nicest surfaces, but it needs a good cleaning up...

Most of the credit goes to Coach Ron Herrington who passed away in the off season. Coach Herrington always kept the Hilltop well groomed. For the amount of space they have the setting for baseball is awesome on the Hilltop. The actual playing surface has always been top notch. Many complain about the short fences, but they are the same distance for all teams. I hope that the Harrison County administration will move forward with naming the field and facility after Coach Whitaker and Coach Herrington.

:thumb: I agree. Harrison's facilities have always impressed me. No doubt the field should be named after Whitaker after he retires.

There's no such rule. It's just common sense more than it is a rule. My guess is a smart lawyer thought they should try and protect themselves.

Those fences are rediculously short. Its what like 270 down the lines. I honestly felt like I was on a large softball field there.

You're right on there...I was dead red (and couldn't hit those most of the time).

That was our motivation to watch and pay attention to the game! The little fence in front reminds me of when I was in little league.

Yeah that is all we need is another smart lawyer dictating how baseball fields should be built. Probably Mills or Cunningham before they got in trouble.

One field that has had tremendous improvements done to it over the last five years or so, is Eastern High School, in Jefferson Co.

They have:

1. Built a three foot high brick wall behind home plate that extends from dugout to dugout.

2. Increasing the distance from home plate to the new wall

3. Added warning tracks al the way around the field.

4. Improved both the infield and outfield grasses, which included adding a grass infield.

5. Rebuilt both dugouts.

6. Built a new concession stand.

7. Built a stadium bleacher section directly behind home plate.

8. Replaced all the old dilapidated bleachers on the home and visitor side.

9. Replaced and increased the back stop netting for better protection to the fans.

10. Upgraded the lighting. It was already pretty good, it just needed some dark spots lit up.

11. Added gravel to their grass field parking lot.

 

I'm sure I'm missing some other improvements they have made. All of this was done through fund raising events and Bingo’s. (Sounds like this public school has learned a thing or two from us Catholics.) :laugh:

 

The bottom line is, it is now one of the premier fields in Jefferson County. Maybe even in the State. Definitely should be in the top 25.

Eastern's field is nice; I especially like the commemorative bricks that make up the backstop.

I really like Tates Creek bieng in the top 10 as well as Pikeville but i think that Knott Central has one of the nicer facilities in KY as well!

Pikeville H.S. field. I also love the stadium at the Cocoa Expo in Florida. Boyd Co. has a great H.S. field as well!
