I am waiting to see the new Johnson Central Facilities. If everything that I hear is true, I can't wait to see it.....

I would agree, but I hear Dixie is going to have something to say about this next year.

It looks nice and all but I wouldn't have a turf field. baseball...or any other sport for that matter shouldn't be played on turf.

 

The main thing that I didn't like about the pictres of St. X's new field were the brown colored turf areas that were where most places have an actual dirt basepath area.

 

As far as the fields that I have been to, I like Corbin's the best (Coach Garmon does a great job keeping that field the way it is), McCreary Central, Pulaski County, Tates Creek, Whitley County, Boyd County (ONLY when Jody Hamilton was the coach there), and St. Henry. The one baseball field that I extremely miss going to is the one at Rockcastle County....I've seen many great baseball games played there (Coach J.D. Bussell and staff work their tails off on that field).

I hear ya and to a certain degree I agree. I will miss seeing a player slid into 2nd or 3rd and come up covered in dirt. But how many games have you seen rained out in the spring because of a storm that rolls through at 4 pm and is gone by 4:30 pm that could have otherwise been played. That will never happen with a turf field.

I'd much rather play than be able to say I have a grass/dirt field.

Coach Garmon at Corbin works like a dog to keep his field prime. Whitley improves their playing surface every year. They have a great facilities and their playing surface is catching up with the rest of their facility. McCreary Central's playing surface is second to none. Pulaski also has a nice place to play.

I always liked throwing off the mound at Whitley. It seemed higher than most others in the region and I could always pick up a little extra on my fastball.

Boyd County has a very good baseball field.

PRP-Played in the East/West game there

Pikeville-When it was grass...

Paintsville-I loved that field for some reason

Johnson Central-though the sun delays did suck

Belfry-The new field is one of the nicest in EKY, though when I was in high school Belfry played their games at Hardy and that was one of the worst fields in the state.

Exactly, play or practice is no problem with field turf, a huge advantage over grass not to mention the cost and labor of maintaining the grass.
