Great showing by the Birds! I really liked what I saw from Duncan at RB, he runs with a lot of energy. Getting him going to allow Willams to not have to truly double dip the whole game is nice.

Any news on Russel Ali? I saw him hobble off and I’m not sure I ever saw him come back in.

Birds’ defense is really playing well, especially up front. I really liked what I saw from Jimi Cox last night on special teams and defense. He’s young guy who hasn’t gotten a lot of publicity but is a name to watch going forward.

Little JC is legit. Just have to get a little more experience.

I've always realized that HS sports is all about talent. The last two years Cooper was loaded. Outstanding skill players. Right now Anderson, Highlands, and Ryle have more talent. Manual will probably be likewise. All you can do is lace'em up and give it your best shot.

Isn’t hurdling in HS illegal?

Only if the defender is vertical.

That’s not in the rule book. Being vertical has nothing to do with it.

If the defender is on the ground he can jump over him, but this instance he’s upright. But how many times do you ever see it called.

This! Per the rules it technically should be a penalty. I honestly would like to see them get rid of that rule though, as if you are athletic enough to make this type of play it should be allowed. Plus like in this case you don’t get consistency with the rule either, as some crews definitely would have flagged this in the game, and some just let it go. So I know I rather them just officially get rid of the rule, since it is not consistently called between crews, even though it’s pretty easy and clear to see when a player does it.

So let me get this straight:

- hurdling a player (like in track) that is up right should be a penalty

- diving head first (ala Walter Payton) over the oline/dline into the endzone is perfectly legal as long as you hopefully land on your head/shoulders and not your feet.

Do I have that right??

Not sure that says much does it?

Yes you are correct. At the end of the day it is a rule, doesn't mean it is a good rule though. Especially since it is not consistently called. You have some crews that call it like it technically is supposed to, and some who don't. That is why it would just be better to get rid of the rule completely, if a player is athletic enough to do that, they should be able to IMO.

100% correct, which is why it’s confusing. The idea behind it is safety. Don’t want the hurdler to get his legs taken out and land in their head or neck.
