Wow I have to totally disagree with you on this. We are already loaded with talented guards. We got two true #2 guards in Crawford and Meeks, but they usually have to play the #3 because we dont have that many inside guys. If we had another real big impact guy down low it would help out the ton of guards we already have because it might force teams to double inside and that would leave are guards more open. So if I could sign one guy right now it definitely would be a top PF like P.P. or another top center because if Morris leaves we have someone to replace him or if Morris stay Morris could play the 4 and that guy could play the 5...Interior guys is definitely the primary concern for this team and has been since Hayes has left...

UK has struggled against teams, that play 2-3 or match-up zone. Every team likes a post player, every team...but unless you have someone from the outside, to open it up, serves little unless they can create on their own.

Not a good plan if you ask me. Thus, why Tubby lacks in the recruiting department.

Exactly. In last years class we are basically stuck with just Carter, and this year could just end up with Stewart, Pettigrew, and Williams. Not a good basis to found a team on, especially after next years class graduates (assuming they don't jump to the league). Tubby definately needs to pick it up or we will continue to slip. Hopefully we land Patterson and Lucas, or at least one of the two. If not then we most definately need to get on the horse for 08.

Crawford and Meeks are shooting guards no matter how you look at it! Most likely on any other team the 2 guard would be the main spot they would play at. Yeah when teams play the 2-3 sometimes we struggle with it, because to break down a 2-3 you have to have someone to get the ball in the middle of that zone. If we had an actual PF who we could get the ball to in the middle of that zone it would open up alot of things, because that would break the zone down and create wide open shots from the outside, and also leave the possibility to lob it to the other big man down low. I mean if you look at the teams Tubby has been successful with while here at UK it has been when we had good inside guys, because he plays an offense that goes inside out. In 98 we had Mohammed, Magloire at Center, and a guy like Padgett at the 4. In 03 we had Estill and Hayes, 04 we had Daniels and Hayes, 05 we had Morris and Hayes. And all those years we had really good years here at UK. Look at the years we have struggled with Tubby was the years when we had someone like Stone who was slow and lazy and never did anything while here at UK. Jason Parker was someone who could have been a good one with the right attitude but he didn't have it, and those years we struggled. Then last year we only had Morris and no PF at all. So its pretty simple to me with the style Tubby runs we need to have 2 big guys down low that can play. When we have that it makes the whole team better. With two big guys it would open up shots for guys like Crawford, Bradley, Meeks, and Porter all guys who can knock it down when open. Its when they have to force 3's because Morris is the only option down low and it makes them struggle because they force things...

2 solid big guys has worked well for Florida. I would take my chances with that.

Look at UK's returning post players, working on the assumption that Morris jumps. With Patterson, the whole team is better, as Stevenson slides to the 3 to back up Crawford, and UK has a glass guy inside. Jasper, Bradley and Crawford at guards. The other two current frosh are more than adequate backcourt subs. It's a good deal, in my opinion. The only concern is depth in the post.

IMO, I never see Stevenson becoming an impact player, he is to skinny and always seems lost on the court.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind PP would be an immediate impact player at UK...he would be averaging double digits starting for UK RIGHT NOW...and we have big men on the bench who can't score 10 points in a month. For the people who don't think he is an impact player - look who's recruiting him and that's all you need to know to tell you that you are wrong...

Patterson certainly has the top programs after him and rightfully so...My point of contention, is that he wouldn't be an impact player as a Freshman at UK....It's all hypothetical and speculation, but a #3, #4 and #5 player, must rely on guard play to often penetrate, breakdown the defense and give them the ball.

 

Jasper will get even better next year, at doing that. If the tempo, was more up than he could average possibly in double digits. Crawford, Bradley will take a large % of the shots and if Morris returns, Patterson will be the 3rd/4th option on many sets.

 

I'm basing my opinion, of the talent and experience of those returning, combined with the system and not so much what Patterson can/can't do. In the college game, creating off the dribble, back to the basket and shooting will have to get better....and I'm sure it will. We all need to keep in mind, not many Freshman are impact players, role players, solid players...but not impact.

By the definition floating around in this thread, I think that's certainly a possibility. I think all three will make the league, but some of the Duke players listed did, too.

 

Right now, you've got one on a bad team (6 1/2 behind the KNICKS) that's celebrating when moves to 2nd on the depth chart ahead of a 5'10" kid that skipped school; A guy that tried to go early and went undrafted; and another that UK fans are convinced he needs a monster SENIOR performance to make waves.

 

I think all three of these guys will stay or make it to the NBA, personally. But the standard set in this thread on not being a 'flop' is pretty high.

Stevenson to the 3? Nope. He either becomes the back up center or is the back up PF. Stewart goes to the 3 in this scenario.

 

Yes there is no way Stevenson sees any decent amount of time at the 3 spot. Also, AJ Stewart is not ready to play at the 3 spot either, trust me Ive seen him in person twice and he would have to really develop his perimeter skills. Also Stewart's coach was talking about him still growing. I think he is a legit 6-8 right now. It would be nice to see him get to 6-9. Also he has a good frame and will be a strong player at UK as well.

 

Stevenson, IMO is another 15 lbs or so from being a really good inside player.

Theoretically though, he would positively impact UK because he would give them a legit offensive threat at the 4 which is something we've been lacking. It can do nothing but help the offense when all 5 positions have to be guarded.

 

He won't be at UK though. We can watch him in the future and wonder what kind of impact he would have had. It should make for some good debates in the future...:thumb:
