Congrats to Ryle on a great season.

Truthfully had me concerned early.

No shame here.

Truly hope the young men who went down were not seriously injured.  Hate to see.

Rocks  - congrats.  Super year. Super comeback.

Guess there  may be a few Crow dinners tonight .

Seems like a whole bunch of Pollsters were off.

maybe Tradition does count for something

  • Trinity’s response in this one is why they are the Gold Standard.  The got punched in the mouth early, there’s no denying that. There’s also no denying Trinity’s poise and and discipline. There w

  • So, the Beast gets #29!!!!!

Well, my favorite number changed tonight.

It was 28 and is now 29!

Great job by Coach Cobb and the staff. It's not easy to be the head coach at Trinity. There are a lot of expectations, and there is a lot of disappointment if you don't win the final game.

Now, he has two years in a row so a tip of the cap to Coach Cobb.

Zane Johnson won MVP and deservedly. Could have also picked a number of guys. Huge play on defense by Caleb Ricks to pretty much seal it.

Calpreps updated and Trinity replaces Cooper as #1 in the state.

29 state championships is a jaw dropping number, Congratulations Trinity!

Congratulations Trinity. Saw them play Fredrick Douglas early this year and was amazed by how disciplined and poised they played no matter what was happening which is rare in high school sports. Not surprised by a repeat. Crazy thing is Trinity brings most this team back with back to back championship experience.

@theguruI didn't get a chance to respond earlier. I was streaming through my phone to my TV.

I was thinking that being down 14 looked familiar. I never thought they wouldn't win.

Trinity did what Trinity does.

I've only seen them lose 2 title games.

2000, 2009.

Correction. 3 title games. My senior year vs. X, '97.

Watching the second half again… Ryle did an awful lot of chirping through most of the game. As the saying goes, they messed around and found out.

No contest!! Trinity remains Trinity!!

I think some of the Northern Kentucky and Ryle folks forgot the teams that Trinity plays week in and week out in the regular season……. FD, Male, Carmel, Center Grove and Cincy St. X. This may have been an “all time” Ryle team. To the Rocks, the next team up…….

Congratulations to the Shamrocks on an amazing run and to Ryle on their season! Looks like this was a great game, closer than the final score indicated. The Shamrocks are the gold standard for Kentucky football and they deal with the target on their back admirably. A couple of the challenges they faced, including from this tough Ryle bunch, show how resilient this team is. After shutting out Ballard in the season the Shamrocks trailed at halftime in the regional finals before eventually winning, then beating Frederick Douglass who has not finished anywhere less than the state semifinals in this decade. This Ryle team they played, they were tested. What a schedule they had. Covington Catholic, Cooper, Highlands, CAL, avenging a loss against storied St. Xavier in the second round, very impressive run for the Raiders.

Congratulations to Trinity on winning the championship and also for their strong representation against out of state competition like Cincinnati St. Xavier who finished 10-4 and then over Carmel, Indiana. Congratulations to Ryle for a great run which included avenging a loss to a tough St. X team in the second round, a strong showing in the finals, and some great wins in the season.

The schedule for Trinity was the difference and the numbers back it up. Hard fought wins against FD (x2), Bryan Station, Carmel, Male, Cincinnati St. X and Ballard paid huge dividends in this game. Ryle's toughest games coming against Cooper and Louisville X just didn't do them any favors and especially down the stretch. Having to go both ways for guys like Savage, Galicia, Lorms and Lee against a Trinity team was massive. As told to me, watching film and seeing that those guys didn't play many meaningful 4th quarter snaps was the reason Trinity didn't flinch, even after being down 14-0. I will absolutely give credit to #0 Dillon Smith, I can definitely see why Coach Brohm has made him a priority at Louisville and he was even better than the film suggested. Savage also played a tough game but seemed like he was playing through some kind of injury perhaps. Only 15 rushing yards in the second half doomed the Raiders and let Coach Michael Fox and the defensive staff call a much looser and fluid defense. I thought Verax also played a tough game despite being on the run and taking so many big hits.

Here are some of the superlatives I rattled off last night on air for the Shamrock program:

- Coach Jay Cobb joins Jim Kennedy (2), Dave Moore (3), Roger Gruneisen (2), Dennis Lampley (5) and Bob Beatty (15) with multiple titles and every coach who has won a title has now won multiple titles

- Trinity is 50-2 against the Northern Kentucky schools (Highlands 2000, Dixie Heights 2004)

- Since the first title in 1968, every class that has come through Trinity has played in a state championship game at least once (56 years.) Only two graduating classes did not won a title (2000, 2001)

- Cobb is the first former Trinity assistant to become a head coach and reach multiple championship games.

It is incredibly difficult to win your last game and at this level, it often seems impossible. While it is routinely overlooked, the culture at Trinity is what makes the difference for these young men, I feel. The weight room, the off-seasons, the playbook and the facilities can all be replicated or bettered.

Twenty-Nine Championships over seven decades cannot.

At least until next year. ☘️

I was 100% wrong thinking the Rocks passing game would be their eventual downfall.  Soph QB Johnson was outstanding and proved to be consistently on target with even the difficult throws.  Coach Cobb knew what he was doing when he gave Johnson the keys to machine.

@#RockNation Nice post and I have a question. Coming from Eastern Kentucky my only deep knowledge of the schools like Trinity and St. Xavier come from the 1970's, when Ashland competed against St. Xavier for the 1975 championship and then two years later Greenup County would compete against Trinity for the championship so I know little on it, but is it typical for Trinity every year to play a completely different lineup for offense, defense, and special teams with nobody going both ways? I was curious. Have heard about it in the past but the only two years I know about in particular are the two in the 1970's that were mentioned. I know Highlands did that quite a bit during the Dale Mueller era but wasn't sure if that was typical for Trinity. It is hard, no doubt, to keep up with a team that has different players going each way and it factored into both of the state championships I mentioned in 1975 and 1977, with Ashland and Greenup County very talented but playing guys both ways and St. X. and Trinity also very talented and playing different players each way.

I have never been to a game at Trinity but have driven by the stadium and I'd say that I would echo many at how impressive it is. Hopefully, "never been to a game at Trinity" will change at some point.
