Most jobs don't hire until after the Christmas Break for schools. While coaches may leave, traditionally the next hire isn't made until January. I understand this is a big job, but I think the process is being played out as most do. They'll make a good hire!

Interesting question for this thread to push the quest to reach 26:

With what they have coming back, Owensboro is probably one of about five teams in 5A who can be considered a real contender to win it all. How many times has a first-year-with-a-program-Head Coach won it all in KY? 

I don't know the answer. I'm genuinely asking if folks know of any. Also, we're not talking about first-year head coaches; we're just talking first-year with a new program head coaches. 

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Dudley Hilton may have done this at Bourbon Co., but I'm not 100% sure that was his first year.

I'd say if it weren't for Homestead Senior HS being open + South Broward in Hollywood, FL then the Red Devils might have a shot.

Bob Beatty made the 4A finals in his first season at Trinity '00 but lost to Male.

I scrolled through the KHSAA's list of heach coaches and their appearances in state finals games, but once you get to the guys who have been once and even twice, sheww, there are too many coaches to remember who did what and when.

Just heard John Gruden wants this job.
