Now that UK’s season is over, a question a lot of us are asking/saying, is it time to fire Mark Stoops.

Kentucky struggled all season long with their best win coming to Ole Miss. They have lost to Vanderbilt twice in the ast 3 seasons.

A lot of folks want him gone. Is it time for that to happen? Is it time for Mitch to pull the trigger?

Unless I’m mistaken, didn’t Mitch say a week or so ago that he believed Stoops  could get this straightened out?

$54 Million could be a tall tree to climb for the buyout.

IMO, he’s reached his glass ceiling at Kentucky and if it hadn’t been for a complete revolt from Texas A&M fan base, he would have left last season.

???

I love it.

In the NIL era going to be tough for any coach at UofK because the big SEC teams will have war chests of money to spend on players.

7-5 and a Gator or Liberty Bowl seems to be the bar. Every once in a blue moon when the stars align, a little better.

Most realize that at a true basketball school (see Kansas, North Carolina, Duke), that’s acceptable to the vast majority of the fan base.  I don’t know if a coaching change will make a difference.

There are never a ton of SEC level recruits in Kentucky.....and UK struggles to get them.

Moot question, they won't spend that kind of money to fire him.

He might quit, might even negotiate a cheaper buyout...but they aren't firing him.

That's the question I usually ask when people start talking about moving on from Stoops. Fire Stoops and move on to who? Kentucky football isn't a destination coaching job for top tier coaches.

You have a lot more experience dealing with this type of thing, I bet you do love it. ?

But the fans can dream.   Remember the good ole days, when Steve Spurrier was looking at horse farms?

Louisville is Kentucky’s Super Bowl. This thread is continued evidence. ?

This thread was coming, win or lose today.

If Rivalry games aren't one of your biggest games, then it must be because you lose more of them than you win.

I haven't paid much attention to college football this year.  Even less attention to UK.  I think Stopps' best days at UK are behind him.  But they aren't firing him either.

A couple of years ago, Stoops looked like he would be the first coach to leave with a winning record at Kentucky since: Bear Bryant.  Since UK had 10 wins vacated from the 2021 season, he's now 67-73 officially.  Given his overall SEC record of 28-62, and the way the SEC is currently set up.  I don't see him ever getting back over .500 at UK, unless they restore those wins from 2021.

I don't think UK will, or even should fire him.  But he kind of lost my support after he just decided to punt the bowl game the season before last.  With playing in the SEC Championship a pipe dream, he and his staff made reaching a bowl game the ultimate goal each season.  Then, once Levis and Rodriguez opted out, they didn't even attempt to put a competitive lineup on the field against Iowa.  They pandered to the Wade twins and let Destin start at quarterback in order to try and keep his brother from entering the portal.  They got shut out, didn't even look like they cared, and the twins transferred anyway.  I was pretty much out on that staff after that.  I hope they do well, but I don't really care as long as they are there.
