I could not agree more.

4 classes vastly superior to this watered down version. But because little Johnnie or little Sally didn’t make the playoffs we had to go to this version.

Not true.  The move to six classes was made for 3 reasons:

1. Participation (meaning overall increasing numbers of high school kids playing football)

2. Money

3. To appease certain whining coaches/administrators who wanted to remove private schools from the overall big picture.

It is time people realize that the KHSAA is never going to reduce the numbers of classes. There is a better chance of adding classes as opposed to reducing the number of classes. It doesn't matter how watered down things are or feel ... this is the reality.

I am familiar with the first 4 seed in KY to beat a one seed in the playoffs. The next week that same team beat the defending state champions ...the next week they were eventually beaten by the eventual state champions (by 4 .. by a slip and fall TD with about six minutes left). Pretty sure those guys appreciated that opportunity.

Here is where I come from on all of this. The focus is on the kids. Football is over for almost all after high school. I want as many life experiences as possible for as many kids as possible. I choos

  • It sure was fun in 2019 being a part of a four seed that knocked out a cross town rival who was the one seed. Then it was even more fun winning the second round game and the district championship. Was

Adair County on upset alert Friday! McLean County coming in as heavy underdogs but they leave Columbia winners 21-14 behind another 150 plus yard game from Western Kentuckys most underrated running back in Aden Bolden and a great game defensively from Hunter Stratton and Jackson Reynolds

That Conner team was 6-4, rated 11th in the Litkenhous entering the postseason.  4-3 in district play.  Which was kinda the point - it worked just fine for that when there were four classes because actual, capable teams might end up as the 4 seed. Also, FWIW that was not the first 4 seed to win.  Bellevue, Mason County, Lone Oak, and Jessamine County all won the first year that they expanded (1991).  Mason County advanced to the region final.

People realize that they're never going back to four classes.  Just because we talk about it doesn't mean we think it's going to happen.

If Ohio had around same amount of teams per class as Kentucky, they would have around 18 classes because they have over 700 teams but they have 6 classes like Kentucky.

I think I have this right, Ohio has seven classes and from Google:

There are 711 schools in this week's 11-player football computer ratings. The 72 largest schools are in Division I, while the remaining schools are divided equally in Divisions II through VII (approximately 106 schools in each division).

Now in Kentucky:

The KHSAA divides its 222 teams into six classes using enrollment numbers from the Kentucky Department of Education.

222 divided by 6 equals an average of 37 schools in each class.

So if Ohio was watered down as much as Kentucky is watered down 711 divided by 37 equals 19.2 classes.

Could any of you imagine having 19 football state champions, lol.

Just for fun, and using Google as a source, Texas has roughly 1500 high schools playing football.  So using the Kentucky formula you would have 40 state champs in Texas. ?

It would take two months just to play out the finals if done using our format. My head is spinning just thinking about it.

Kentucky does things right for the baseball and basketball State Tournaments. When it comes to football they get it wrong by a long shot.  Most of these #1 seed vs. #4 seed teams are a waist of time and neither team wants to play that blow out game.

Are you sure about that? I think most of the #4 seeds do want to play that game - especially the seniors. One more chance to play a sport you'll never play again.

Football is a Physical sport.  When a team has a running clock on them in the 1st quarter or even half is not fun.  They are literally getting the snot beat out of them.  Also the kids that are crushing the other team are often not having fun. It becomes boring.  That game is not rewarding for anyone.  The playoffs should be a reward for a good season. Playoffs or post season was never intended for an 0-10 team to get one last game in for the seniors.

I hate to look at these first round Senior kids after games against really tough teams that had to travel to another school to get the snot beat out of them for their last game. it breaks my heart I've seen some walk zig zags to the locker room to get an extra couple minutes on the field.

Have you asked all the players and coaches if they wanted to play if not how do you know. If you don’t want to watch or listen to the games that’s your choice but I don’t know how you could know what every #4 seed coach and player wants.

What if you could do both make the playoffs competitive & get more teams in the playoff?

Go to a system similar to the NCAA FBS/FCS.  You could have 2 sets of 4 classes.

Not in any way saying its the perfect solution or you wouldn't have blowouts.

Let the kids play as many games as possible. It is a short time period in their lives. That is the bottom line.

Agreed!

Football in its true sense, is probably the most difficult sport to stay active in after high school in some form.

You can find pickup basketball games.  Lot of baseball players either play in adult leagues or transition over to slowpitch softball.  Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, you can continue to play.
