Tough loss for the Reds, playoffs are slipping away. My buddy told me from the get go they are a .500 ball club, that was in April. Unfortunately Redlegs are proving him right down the stretch when it matters most. I'll keep watching. 

To me, this whole "Playoff" chase is a major marketing scheme to sell tickets.  We will be in a marketing "Playoff Race" until the day that we are mathematically eliminated.  The fact of the matter is that we are 16 1/2 games our of first place, the only "Playoff Race" that we oldsters had when we were kids.

Even in recent years you didn't hear much about the "Wildcard Race" until the last few weeks of the season.  Here in Cincinnati, our media has been marketing the Wildcard Race since prior to the All-Star Game.  We are clinging to straws.  Our King has no clothes.  Groveling in hopes of being eliminated in a one-done "Playoff Game" for which I'm sure we would sell T-Shirts and  hang a banner.

16 and a 1/2 games out of first place.  Focus on that and tell me how proud you are of this team.

We are still running 65-70 players through our roster and there is no stability in our lineup nor clubhouse.  Tito has already secured his spot in Cooperstown.  I fail to see, nor hear, much passion from him.  Always the same "Get 'em next time story after every loss."

I do feel sorry for those who did not experience the Reds at their finest, and expected to be in playoffs and World Series, and are holding out hopes for this dog that we are being marketed into thinking we are in a "Playoff Race."   Sad!

With the loss tonight we are back to .500 for the first time in a good while. It is also our first 5 game losing streak this season and they have now lost 7 of their last 8. The Cards and the D-Backs are now just a 1/2 game from passing them for the first team out of the wild card race. The Reds have now 7 games left in this 9-game home stand and probably need at least 5 of the 7 to stay in the wild card race.

They certainly were in a playoff race. This losing streak at the worst time makes the playoffs look out of reach, but the Reds were within a game of the wildcard. No marketing. Fact. And the media reported the facts.

Also, if the Reds did get in the playoffs they would be a dangerous team because of your favorite Red of the last 5 years Hunter Greene along with the other starting pitchers.

We are 16 games out of first-place.  Certainly nothing to be proud of.

I'm truly sorry that our current fan base is relegated to pinning our dreams on some chase of a backdoor hope that didn't even exist back when MLB baseball was truly ML. 

I have no use for Hunter Greene then, nor now.  He has let you down again this year, and will continue to do so in the future.  Hunter Greene cares about one thing - Hunter Greene.

I also grew up with the Big Red Machine.

I am thankful that I am able to live in the now and not be trapped in the past. 

The Reds won today to stop the losing streak, plus the Mets lost so the Reds are back to 4 games out.

Just a little cruel VOR.  Mustang and I are pretty close in age and I think it was exciting to be part of the Big Red Machine era. Today’s Reds are so hard to love….it is a rollercoaster experience with little excitement offsetting the disappointments.

Not trying to be cruel. Trying to be real. Relish the memories of the past. But please don't spend life saying if you can't get that again you stink. 

Heck yeah the Castellini era Reds are frustrating. They can't figure it out, but I watch and look for possibilities. This team has potential. The starting pitching is really close to playoff quality - maybe even there. Not World Series winning quality but they could win a playoff series behind these starting pitchers if they could just get the pieces behind them to fit. It reminds me of the pre-Big Red Machine era. Sometimes the offense works. Sometimes the pitching. Close but just not quite in sync and good enough to win enough on a daily basis.

Tito is the man. I love almost everything he is doing. I think he has taken a few risks the past couple weeks trying to get wins with the personnel he has in the dugout. He doesn't have enough pieces yet. There is such a thing as trying too hard and it feels like that is what is happening these past couple weeks for everyone, including Tito. 

Give Tito an off season after a year with this team. Let him get his HOF level knowledge and insight into an off season where he can impact this roster. Next year could be very interesting if the organization let's him put his mark on the roster.

I too love Tito.  As a really old player and coach I marvel at the lack of fundamentals these young guys have on defense.  DelaCruz has so much athletic talent but for every special play he makes he offsets it with a head scratcher on the routine.  Fields so many groundballs by lazily reaching one-handed instead of squaring up and fielding it in front of him two handed ready to throw.  Just a lack of fundamentals.  Same for outfielders that continually catch flyballs one handed and again not in a throwing position.  Marte’s great throw home yesterday would have been a no doubter out had he shaved just 1/10th of a second by catching the fly ball properly.

Reds win today on the Blue Jays the Mets also won so the Reds remain 4 games back in the Wild Card race.
