Does anyone know if any of the Franklin Co games moving forward are tough ones for them.  I believe they have N Oldham, Henry Co and I think a 6A team to finish?

I’ve heard people say they expect them to win out but will any of those be close?

You're incorrect.  Read what you posted again:

Let's imagine it is Boyle County.

Formula is 35% WP (Boyle County's), 35% OWP (The teams Boyle County played), 30% OOWP (The teams those teams played).  So if St. Edward is in that middle group, then the teams St. Edward plays are in the third group.  That would, as in my example, be a team like Washington.  The teams Washington plays, not part of that equation.  St. Edward is 3-2.  Their opponents are a combined 19-4 (which includes Boyle County). And that's where it would stop.

Now, where some of this does fall apart is that the KHSAA has that weight adjustment for playing a team in a higher class.  And maybe that's why they refuse to use the out of state teams.  I think that adjustment is pretty silly anyway, but hey, that's an opinion.

I think this sums it up.  For the Boyle vs St. Edwards example - the KHSAA would have to track roughly 100 Ohio scores throughout the season.  That would be St. Edwards’ other 9 games.  And then about 9 scores for each of St. Edwards’ opponents.  
 

And I think you’re correct that it would be great if they had a system that could simply automatically pull these scores each week.

Now whether the KHSAA will ever try and do this. I honestly have my doubts unfortunately.

Cov Cath's RPI is about to go down the tube with their district schedule. They just had to factor in Holmes' RPI 0.3089, then after Friday they add in Grant County's 0.52766, then Harrison County's 0.32799 and Mason County's 0.57844.

I believe sister district pairings for the playoffs are still 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8. So in District 6, Ashland, Johnson Central and Greenup County all currently have higher RPIs than Cov Cath does, and Boyd County is immediately after us in RPI ranking.

Boyd County has Rowan County to factor into their RPI still, but they also have Pikeville as their last opponent of the year, so my guess is that Boyd County ends up ahead of Cov Cath in RPI at the end of the season.

Greenup County also still has Rowan County to be added into their RPI equation, and their last game of the season is against Fleming County (currently 0-5), and Greenup is currently #9 in RPI, two spots ahead of Cov Cath. I think there's a small chance that Greenup County could drop down behind Cov Cath in RPI by the end of the season.

Yep! The craziest example of it so far that I've seen was in 2022 for Boyle and Lex Cath. Lex Cath beats Boyle in the regular season so Boyle finishes second in district. Boyle hosts round 1, then round 2 has to travel to Boyd County. Well, their RPI was higher than Lex Cath's so round 3 they actually hosted Lex Cath at home in the third round even though they lost to them in the regular season, then hosted their semi final game as well.

I believe in Round 3, Districts 5-8 are thrown together and the highest remaining RPI host the lowest remaining RPI and second highest remaining hosts the second lowest. Last year it happened to be District 5 vs. 6 and 7 vs. 8 in quarterfinals, but CovCath could have played Boyle or Corbin if the RPI played out that way. JC upsetting Ashland in the regular season last year allowed CovCath to avoid Boyle and Corbin in the quarterfinals.

From what the RPI is today and if the teams advance to East round 3 I believe it would be.

(4)Cov Cath at (1)Boyle

(3)Corbin at (2)Ashland or Johnson Central.  

 

Higher teams prevail round 4 would be.

(3)Boyle at (2)Franklin

 

These will change each week as we get towards the end of the season.  Corbin at Johnson Central this weekend will be a big RPI boost for the winner and killer for the loser.

For all the early criticism of the RPI, we've continually seen that more data makes a more accurate product. We can quibble about the order but the top 7 seems about right, with only Covington Catholic missing.
