Sounds great...mandatory dead week 1st week of October...dead week over x mas break, and a dead week 1st week of April to go along with 2 week dead period in summer.

My two cents. I like this thought a lot. During breaks while in season, it is difficult to get all kids to stay in town. For many families, this is the only times that they can spend on a vacation together. And we as coaches are not going to win that battle forcing kids to stay home. People need to understand also that teenagers need a mental and physical break from time to time. This is not college. Their bodies are changing and cannot give full effort for long periods of time. Using Tony Holler philosophy - Train them like Fast Cats!!! - Lots of rest and go 100% when you go!!!

Players will give a coach whatever they have if they know the coaches expectations and everyone (coaches included) are help to those expectations. If the goal for coaches isn't getting kids prepared for a full 15 week season, then that is a disservice to the players. (whether or not they have the players to make it 15 weeks or not)

Players are essentially getting 3 days rest throughout the week, 2 days on the weekend and 1 day for walkthrough/pre-game on Thursday. I don't think it's too much to ask for players to go hard 4 days a week.

If financial, it would be the teacher salary. If not mistaken, it is one of the lowest in the area, state. I'm sure they can find extra money to make up a higher salary for the head coach. (I.e. extended days,)

From my understanding, Coach Jaggers was compensated well.

And, didn't have to teach.  He did all weights...I think many potential head coaches would find that appealing.

Right up until he wasn't.

What about parents? Parents are the ones that make the choice to go somewhere during fall break. Be it there is a game or not.

I find it there a good chance from reading comments those that have coached and those that have not. Those that have not tend to have a different view of most of the realities of coaching HS football.

That’s how it usually works.  Just seems to me everyone is slamming Lincoln County support, and I don’t think it’s valid.  They have a solid booster club and pay well relatively speaking, and quite frankly they weren’t successful on the field last two years when you have all-time leading QB and veteran nucleus.  With their JR class, I think a coach can spark a new energy and depending on SOS can be solid.

Yeah, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Booster clubs and good salaries or not, when parents and administrators from Lincoln County are the ones seeing to their coaches having short terms on the job, then calling that "support" seems pretty contradictory.

And if I'm not mistaken, Lincoln County spent most of the season without leading WR and tackler Connor Davis due to a broken ankle. Played the entire season without Kash Smith, who'd been expected to start at RB and LB, because he had shoulder surgery. They had a freshman O-lineman who was projected to start this year who sat out with a torn MCL. Starting safety JC Bryant missed 5 games with a collapsed lung. Starting corner Bradley Cole was out for several games in with a number of injuries. Bryce Floyd was in and out of games on limited time during becausd of a torn labrum. He'd been the top rusher and receiver. Reed Curtis had his season ended early in with another ACL tear. He'd been carrying the ball a bunch, started on defense, and was the statewide leader in forced fumbles when he had his season ended. Starting DL Justin Mounce only played 7 games because of his shoulder. That starting lineup was made up primarily of walking wounded and backups to backups.

Plus, don't get me wrong, Horton is a fine QB, but 130 yards and 1.1 touchdowns passing per game (plus another 30 yards rushing) isn't exactly rockstar status as an "all-time leading QB." If he's the marquee player for the program, then maybe that speaks more to the fact that, hey, Lincoln County just really isn't overflowing with talent to go be world-beaters.

In my opinion, people at Lincoln County need to take a long, hard look at the reality of their program and realize, ya know what, we aren't gonna win the Rose Bowl every year, and we probably aren't gonna draw in Kirby Smart to coach our program either. Maybe we need to set our sights on something a little different than we have been.

Maybe so, but I think the school can expect to have a coach that is going to work at it regardless of the injuries and talent level.

I'm just not here for the Lincoln County doesn't support its coaches and programs.  It's not the community and administration fault that the product was poor.

Welp.....you're welcome to come back in a couple-few years if and when Lincoln County doesn't run their next coach out on a rail, and if that's the case, I will GLADLY tell you that you're right and I'm wrong. But I'm gonna be completely honest with you, from the perspective of an outsider who can look at the situation without having emotions involved, the fact that people surrounding the Lincoln County community continue to regurgitate that same 'ol thing that I highlighted in your post...that's exactly what the problem is at Lincoln County.

We can agree to disagree on this . The senior class and sophomore class has had no problems competing with and beating the Boyle county teams until “the you know who’s in roll “. There’s some good talent in the program now and has some freshman that can be big time players for Lincoln county.

Coach Crutchfield went back to his hometown school.  I don't think anything or lack thereof from the community factored in at all...
