Open Job: Lincoln County

Casey County wasn't in rebuild mode. Stoney had the program at Casey in a great spot when he left. Anyone worth their salt in coaching will tell you that most all public high school football in programs that aren't in large urban areas are as cyclical as it comes. Casey Co is definitely no exception, and Steve took the Adair job while Casey was peak downcycle. Stonebraker took over a program that hadn't had more than 5 wins a season in the previous 5 years, and he turned it around and then had them winning 10 games in each of his first two seasons there. Facts.

Levi has himself a nice situation going down there at Casey Co. If he's wise, he stays there and does NOT go home. Y'all have seen firsthand what going home to Lincoln did to Jaggers. That place is poison for coaching careers. The folks there grind 'em up and spit 'em out.

It's no wonder Lincoln Co calls their field Death Valley. They even have the tombstone at their field. Seems to me like the administration should start engraving the names of all the coaches they unceremoniously run off onto that sucker.

What you say is true about Casey not being in rebuild mode this last season. Casey had the majority of their starters back this past season from their only district championship season in 2022. They also had a much easier district this past year than the one they won in 2022 and they finished 3rd this year.

I do think Levi will have a shot at the Lincoln job because I’m not sure how much interest it’s going to get with the parent spectacle and the fact that they are likely going to be in the same district as Boyle for the foreseeable future. That alone will likely keep any established head coaches away. Levi may end up being the best that they can do right now.

Maybe our definition of rebuild mode is different.  They lost do it all QB Ethan Willouguby the year before.  I’d say he had to do some things…

So, since people firing shots at me y’all think losing a stud QB that threw for 2,000 and ran for 1,000 yards and was by far the best athlete Casey Co. Has seen maybe forever is not impactful?  See their basketball team this without him this year.  I don’t know Casey County whole roster this year, and I didn’t even say whether I think Coach Rogers should leave or not.  But, I can unequivocally tell you the guy knows ball and coaches his tail off.  I just said if I was Lincoln Co. Admin. I would do what they should have done the last time, and offer the man the job.

And would not be going on vacation during the season.  I’m sorry, but when you have the crosstown rival up next it’s bad optics.  I know they would not win anyways, but I just don’t think it’s a good look.  We can agree to disagree.

Lincoln Co. Will have a new principal next year.  Maybe he wants his own guy…

Hope he wants who the parents want. It sounds like they are calling the shots.

So we’re worried about looks more than what is beneficial for the team and coaches?

Is it really so bad when tons of parents take or allow their sports playing kids out of town for fall and spring break in the middle of the season? Many teams are forced to shut it down during fall and spring break because so many families are now taking vacation.

Jaggers to BC as the DC?  Just a thought or is there a HC job available around this area still open that he would be interested in?

I think it’s fair to say everyone expected some better results, and the work habits were an issue.  Coach Crutchfield had the program pretty stable and competitive, and there were alot of players with a lot of experience in the program.  I think most coaches know in today’s society it comes with the territory and being the head coach and getting a gravy day job.

I didn’t say it was bad.  I guess someone can go on vacation whenever they want.  It is a new era.

What is beneficial for the team and coaches from going on vacation during season?  I think the coaches wanted to practice for Boyle Co, but could be wrong.

The season/year is a long grind. People need a break from 7 day a week work weeks for 2-3 months. If they took the week off but no one knew if any left for a vacation would that change things? If assistant coaches want to practice that week I’m sure they all had the chance to put in their input. This doesn’t even take into account players taking vacations.

What would people think if you didn’t do anything in June? Scott Co hasn’t done anything in June in forever and it appears to work for them. Using the bye week/fall break off as an excuse or against a coach is pretty weak.

If Lincoln is getting a new principal next year then that will be another reason why established head coaches wouldn’t want the job now. And another reason that Levi is the guy.

As for the other comments. Willoughby was an excellent football and basketball player. I’m not sure about him being the best player in recent memory at Casey but I do know that the two sports are different. One player can impact basketball more. With that being said by looking at the KHSAA Scoreboard Casey lost 5 of their top 6 scorers in basketball from last year. Casey football team had the majority of the starters returning from an 8 win district champion that beat 3 teams with a winning record. They had a losing record this year with all those guys returning and lost to a 3 win Garrard team to finish 3rd in the district and they didn’t beat anyone with a winning record.  In football that’s more than just losing one particular player. And I don’t think that’s rebuilding. I do think with what they lost Casey basketball is rebuilding this year. Casey football will be rebuilding next year after losing so much this year.

I’m sorry like I said we can not agree.  A 6”5 240 running and throwing QB would be my pick as best Casey Co. Football player in years.  Not exactly a powerhouse program.
