Boyle County Basketball/Football question

Featured Replies

I saw an interesting video on social media about the Boyle County football conditioning program that started in January.  They were meeting before school and doing a variety of activities and then lifting.  I thought I noticed a few basketball players in the group.  Do any of you know if the basketball players are participating and if so, how often are they training?

Thanks in advance.

The 45th district champs football/basketball players worked out this past Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 6:45. They were also up with their team at 6:45 Thursday and Friday stretching then getting

The workouts are only an issue when they lose didn’t you know that?

Everybody on the football team takes part in the offseason football program. It’s Monday-Friday. On big game days, players go to the gym and get shots up and do shoot around.

Do you know if they are lifting every day Monday-Friday?

They are. It’s how they’ve done it the past four years at least that I know.

I don't know about having my guys lift everyday of the week in the middle of a basketball season. But it's common that guys workout with football during the other seasons. Again I wouldn't be doing it 5 days a week with any heavy weight, but we have to remember Boyle is a football school. I'm sure that comes first and sometimes is used against kids at big football schools like that if they aren't showing up.

If this is truly happening during basketball season, it’s a slap in the face to basketball at Boyle Co and needs to be addressed by AD and administration.

I was going to ask if this was an unheard of cooperative between basketball and football coaches? Every coach says they want as “many multi-sports athletes as possible” but we all know only about 1% truly do. I’d say lifting that many times a week during the season is too much but I’m also not a trainer. If it has been working then no reason to change it now.

At this time of the year, they would not be mandatory workouts. That means it’s up to the players, so I don't’t know why the administration or AD would get involved.

On days there are big basketball games the kids stretch and then shoot around while the rest of the team works out.

The kids have zero problems with it. Last year Boyle lost in the region on an off shooting night, and didn’t have many shooters as is. Year before they lost a PC team that lost region off a buzzer beater. Year before that they lost in the elite 8 at state. Doesn’t seem to be too big a problem.

The biggest contributors to the BC basketball program are the football players. They don’t complain and BC has had great basketball teams. All the great basketball teams that they have had came during its football success. The early morning workout program has been going on since the late 90s. Anyone who thinks this is causing problems for the basketball team knows nothing about Boyle county athletics.

The only people upset by this are the teams that Boyle are playing. These kids put it all on the line because they want to be the best. By the way the administration is very aware of this. The Superintendents son is the starting center on the Football team. I think the BB/FB players have a lighter lifting schedule on game day. nikeman 49 , your comment is typical of programs not willing to work hard enough on their own, so they try to tear down the one's willing to do so. You probably need to go spread your venom somewhere else. It is not going to work here.

The teams Boyle is playing are probably happy that they are following a training program like this.  All that it's doing is tiring them out and doesn't contribute a thing to making them better basketball players.  Not everyone is jealous of Boyle County athletics.

So making kids stronger, faster, and more athletic doesn't help with basketball.. noted.

I wonder if NBA guys lift or train on gamedays.  Maybe they all lay around and just show up to the arena an hour or 2 before games each night.

I believe these two posts go together.  Thanks @DearToday, that is exactly how I think it should be on gameday.

@okie1, what are you suggesting?
