Is he ready for Varsity play having only played Frosh ball?

I find it hard to believe, if he's top in the country, Elder and the GCL would have missed that.

Is the UK offer real?

I've seen the camps he attends, plenty of kids are traveling around, but that doesn't translate to actual play in games.  Reminds me of "showcase baseball players", they can showcase well, get offers, have the metrics and fizzle out in games.

I got to think its Harney's spot to lose as he's shown out on a Varsity field before, especially in a tough spot.

Great "problem" to have though!

I think you have to ask that question for every first year starter at the varsity level, you don't know what you truly got into you jot them out there. Nobody said he was top in the country but at the middle school level and camping multiple recruiting outlets had him up in that group. When it comes to quarterbacking, yes he is above Cash and anyone else I have saw in the colonels backfield. The accuracy, arm strength, size, zip on the ball, this kid has trained all year round for years now to become a quarterback. It's not like the kid has never play the position before he was a stud from an early age through middle school why would it be any different against those same kids at the high school level? He trains with Brad Maendler year round one of the top QB trainers in the area. Brad has had a QB make the ELITE 11 3 out of the last 4 years and he believes Emmett is on that path.

He is surrounding himself with all the top guys to be successful! This is the list of people Brad has had last couple years. Allar was number 1 prospect in country on many sites, and now PSU starter. Grunkemeyer is his backup also a top 100 kid on the sites. And then you have Monty another top 100 kid who just committed to Georgia. Emmett wouldn't be training with these guys or Brad if he wasn't in that tier, just my opinion.

Anyone have any word on two players transferring into the football program? One from the Palmetto State, and the other from Lex-Vegas?

I'm pretty positive this season's schedule is just the same as last years with the locations swapped for the games. I know for sure that those first 6 games are correct.

That would make the 2024 schedule:

Aug 23 at Ryle
Aug 30 vs. Highlands
Sep 6 vs. Simon Kenton
Sep 13 at Dixie Heights
Sep 20 vs. Beechwood
Sep 27 at Holmes (District)
Oct 4 vs. Grant County (District)
Oct 11 - BYE
Oct 18 at Harrison County (District)
Oct 25 vs. Mason County (District)
Nov 1 at Campbell County

Not that it's really news, but it looks like the reported previously schedule is officially official. Just a flip-flop of last year's hosting sites.

Aug 23 at Ryle

Sep 6 vs. Simon Kenton
Sep 13 at Dixie Heights
Sep 20 vs. Beechwood
Sep 27 at Holmes (District)

I haven't been hearing much about the 2024 squad thus far, to be perfectly honest, but I peeped the names that have been populated thus far to the Cov Cath Hudl roster, and I saw D-tackle Peyton Mayo show up as the incoming sophomore from Frederick Douglass (I wasn't sure of his name, previously).

Looking at the stats for Douglass from last season, he saw playing time in all 12 of the Broncos' games as a freshman. I'm assuming he was subbing in later in the games as a backup, since he only shows 2 solo tackles and 7 assisted tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss.

His Hudl account lists him at 5'2" and 165lbs, but I'm gonna go ahead and assume that's old info, since his account goes back to his middle school days playing at Lexington Christian.

Here's a tweet from Coach McPeek at Douglass from back in March...with Peyton squatting 425lbs as a sophomore ??

Turns out the other player I was mentioning is from North Carolina, not South Carolina...kicker named Ryan Urti. Coming in as a senior transfer from Charlotte Catholic. Charlotte Catholic is in North Carolina's 4A (largest school) division, and last year they lost in round three of the NCHSAA's six-round postseason.

Looks like Urti was the #2 kicker at Charlotte Catholic last year behind Roman Hyland, a fellow junior who was averaging 57.2 yards per kickoff and was 4 for 4 on field goals (42 yards was longest), he was also 25 for 26 on PAT's. Hyland is listed as a 4-star kicker by Kohl's Kicking Camps, and ProKicker.com lists him as a 3-star kicker. Aside from his 2023 stats on MaxPreps, I couldn't find anything on Urti or his kicker ratings. MaxPreps shows Urti as playing in 5 games last year. He had 9 kickoffs, averaging 46.7 yards per kick, with his longest kick at 54 yards. He didn't have any field goal attempts, and was 5 for 6 on PAT's. Definitely sounds like Urti could be competing with Weitzel for starting kicker.

Andrew Weitzel was 71 for 76 on PAT's last year, 2 for 4 on field goals. I don't have anything immediately available on what the yardages were on the field goals/attempts., and I'm not sure what Andrew's average yardage was for kickoffs last season. But if folks recall, there were three, maybe four games last year where we were penalized on special teams for kicking the ball out of bounds on kickoffs, so I'm sure that's something Coach Shelton has been working on with Weitzel in the offseason.

He looks bigger than 165lbs!  I'm thinking you're right.  That's got to be old numbers.

I am cautiously optimistic about the 24-25 team.  They will be a young team that runs deep in young talent.  Unfortunately, this year’s senior class has been hit hard with attrition.  They have lost several kids who decided to focus on baseball, basketball and several others to unforeseen circumstances, but the guys remaining are rock solid and I look for their leadership to hopefully bring this team back to Kroger Field in December.

Obviously, there are some questions about several key positions that need to be filled.  The most glaring being QB1.  I believe there are 3 or maybe four viable candidates for the job. Having multiple viable candidates is indeed a good problem. Harney, Queen, and Geiser all bring unique strengths, and their competition will likely elevate the team’s performance.  Whoever is named QB1 this year will most likely have a two or maybe three-year reign depending on who is named.   That bodes well for the Colonels over the next several years.

The next position with question marks is at two of the linebacker positions.   The Colonels graduated two of the four starters from last year’s state runner-up team.  The Willie Rodriguez and Josh Flood combination of speed and size will be hard to replace, but I see several viable options for both positions.  Junior Tucker Evans filled in quite well for Flood last year after he went down with a broken collar bone at middle linebacker, but I could also see sophomore Owen Pitzer competing for that spot too.  The other outside linebacker position I see four potential candidates in Juniors Brady Guard, Eli Fesmire and Henry Atkins with sophomore Spencer Clukey a strong candidate to potentially leapfrog the juniors.

The next question is who will replace Ben Reeves at D-end?  Ben was quite easily our best pass rusher last year.  It seems he would be hard to replace but, senior Nick Krallman will fill his shoes as good as or possibly better than Ben.  Nick has a huge frame at 6’5’’ and has real downhill speed and the odd strength of an old school mason brick layer.   I look for Nick to have an absolute monster year this year and expect him to take a lot of teams by surprise.

Dead period ends tonight. I see a team with a lot of question marks but fortunately, I also see a team with a lot of answers to those questions, just who it will be.   It will be interesting to see who steps up to fill these positions over the next several weeks as the clock ticks closer to opening day.  Go Colonels!

Drew Huber picks up an offer from the Mount. His twitter bio lists him as 6'5 273.  Looking forward to seeing him this Fall.
