Just bringing facts to the discussion. Part of the discussion has been how Ipsaro shut Sheppard down. Someone mentioned above CCH is playing box and 1 on Sheppard. Is that correct?

And I will add - I have no rooting interest for any of these players.

I appreciate the knowledge.  It just goes back to the most complete player statement, which Ipsaro is.  He does not get shut down, He leads, He rebounds, He locks down, He passes with a court vision that is the best in the state in that category alone and He wins. Ipsaro wins games, big games against all the other players in the discussion for the award.  He runs the show in a highly complex offensive and defensive scheme where He is expected to facilitate and He still dominates the scoring offensively.  He is hands down the best player in the state.

Ultimately it’s all just opinion from all of us, but I am beyond comfortable with my opinion based on all Ipsaro has done this year from an individual, team, and win perspective that He is the best in the state, period.

Sheppard is UofK commit plus McDonalds All-American no way he doesn't get Mr. Basketball whether fair or not.

Ipsaro is not only the best, but is the most complete player in the state period.  To quote above, He has shut down Reed the last few time they have played.  Nothing against Reed and I do not care whe

I definitely agree. Reed had a great AAU career but also had top 4 and 5 star players on his team with arguably the best HS coach in Ohio. I think AAU should not be considered. If you look at the matc

Some folks are getting theirs all up in a bunch. Someone is going to be Mr Basketball. Someone isn't going to be named their Region's candidate. Someone's team isn't going to make it to the Sweet 16. As has happened before, someone else will be "Gatorade POY," or some such.

I wonder if these kids get wrapped up as much as some do on who should and shouldn't win an award. Off the top of my head, I couldn't name an award winner from ten years ago. Some fans will be willing to do "this" all over again next year.

All will make an all-state team of some kind, somewhere. Almost all will be playing at the next level. All will be deserving.

It's gonna be fantastic seeing the Best of the Bluegrass - Sheppard, Ipsaro, Potter, Moore, etc., playing together on the same floor for all-star games this summer.

Me, I just can't manufacture any fauxtrage over a trophy. For everyone else ...

You are absolutely on point and guilty as charged Your Honor…..self imposed punishment is to enjoy the rest of the year as it will be over way to fast and the Seniors will be gone.

And I can only guess that the players are not at all as nuts as we are about it.  Great players are too present to worry about it and all mentioned are truly great players.

Wow, I'm glad this silly debate is over.  Our votes don't count anyway.

So glad that Sheppard grew here and didn’t have to fly here!! Great for Mr. Basketball that he didn’t have to do that!

It's over but this is likely representative example of what will happen with the acyual media and coaches voting. You hope it will be more organized. They will vote with their heart, which is fine, using some non-transparent or undocumented criteria to make their selection, ultimately ignoring facts and quantatative statistics.

Either way it is for the kids but sports are competitive and so are debates. So it's all good!

Good luck to all.

I actually don't know what he done, but he has been at GRC for 5 years.

KHSAA roster reads;

2018/19  Fr.

2019/20  So.

2020/21 Jr.

2021/22 Jr.

2022/23  Sr.

Give me Tremane Alcorn (Lincoln Co.) from the 12th.  Led his team to the State Final Four last season, and having another great year!

So I was having a conversation last night with a die hard long time KY HS Basketball fan from Central Kentucky. We started chatting about finalists for 2023 Mr. Basketballl. He is a Sheppard fan like the rest of KY and I was telling him how Cov Cath held him to 1 point outside of a 3 pointer with under a minute left last week and that Ipsaro outshined him in a major way. I proceeded to tell him that Evan Ipsaro is the best player in the state on one of the top teams in the state.

After giving him about a 100 examples of why Ipsaro is the best in the State, including getting robbed the MVP of the King of the Bluegrass in 2022, he rebutted with Jacob Meyer and that Reed Sheppard was the only McDonald All American from KY. Crazy enough I came across an article that basically said the same thing (maybe he was quoting the article). Either way, of all the candidates who are the top 3 candidates in everyone's opinion and why?

And second, the fact that Reed is a McDonald's All American, mostly due to his performance on a national stage in AAU, is he the best Senior in KY this year? And should it be a foregone conclusion that Reed Sheppard will be 2023 Kentucky Mr Basketball? Is it fair?

Poor Shotwhisperer. All he wanted was a list of the top three candidates for Mr. Basketball and  some vouching for the best player and a hockey game broke out!

Sounded like a full blown advertisement for his guy from CovCath for Mr. Basketball!

Can we agree on a tie between Ipsaro and Meyer?  It’s hard to pick one over the other for the 9th Region POY and Mr. Basketball candidate.  Both have had an outstanding year.

Naah..just wanted to see if y'all were going to give a top 3 with some logical basis for why. It was apparent that isn't the case. That's OK, I like the scientific method of selection, view stats, head to head, competition, similar to the NBA Player Efficiency Rating (PER). If that were the case, the advertisement for "my guy" would be pretty compelling. There will be a head to head with Ipsaro vs. Sheppard in a couple weeks. We can all come back and do it again after that game. ??

Your thought process may be flawed (you can decide or yourself).  In the NBA, the teams are all very similar and the game is geared for 1 v 1 matchups.  Again, two HS teams are not close to each other.  For instance, CC has no bigs and NL has only 1 guard who can handle the ball.  If you honestly think the winner of the game has the best player when they don't even go up against each other the entire game then I cannot convince you.  Again, gimmick defenses like box and 1 does not happen in the NBA.  Now both guys, along with several others, should be considered for this award.
