From The Motz Group: Ludlow Independent Schools red turf field is surely one-of-a-kind—and built to handle more than just game days. Sitting in a flood plain, the school needed an infill that wou

I am going to go @Mustang on this one. Just not a fan of any of these colorful fields.

Nope.   The only team in NKY that should have a field the same color as their primary color is Dayton.

Drive by the field daily, and I was initially on board with everyone and didn’t know how I felt about it. As it is a major change, but like mentioned above that thing really pops in person. Pictures don’t even do it justice, the red against that scenery of green and just location really does fit it perfect. Only thing I’d be worried about is changing a few things up on stands and concession so there isn’t so much red.

But I’ve been to most fields in the area, it’ll be the best looking field hands down.

All a matter of opinion. No red field anywhere could be the best looking field for me.

I love it. For a program that needs a bump to make the jump in their district this will help. I’m big time pulling for Ludlow this season.

Mostly red accents around the stadium. Stands are primarily black, facilities and lockers rooms are grey. Team unfortunately plays in red. But that could change once next uniform rotation comes around.

You know, I'm not a big fan of colored fields but if this could generate some interest and pride in program and school plus gets more folks at games, it's good.  Of course harkening back to my artsy fartsy days, certain colors reflect heat and others absorb heat.  Red will be rather hot on those sunny days and more than likely retain that heat into the evening.

I'll be on that field in late October.  I'll let you all know if my eyeballs are scarred for life!

Good point, and it got me wondering which colors absorb more sunlight and heat. And according to this site, outside of white, which absorbs the least heat, red is the color that absorbs the least amount of heat on the spectrum. Green is right in the middle. So a red field will actually be cooler than a green field, as it is less likely to absorb and hold heat.

We were taught red was a middle color so it would absorb a little more heat than some (and I'm sure the type of material/surface has a lot to do with it also).  Be that as it may, turf fields will be hotter than natural grass but kids are resilient and my son got acclimated to playing on turf in his day.  However he always said he preferred natural grass over turf.

The black, rubber pellets that fill in the turf absorb a lot of heat, even though they aren’t really visible. It would be interesting to see the effect red turf has on the temperature of the surface. When it’s 95 outside it probably doesn’t matter what color the turf is.

Yep, tracking them into the house is a treat too.  I hear from my wife that I cause the vacuum cleaner to jam up.

My wife has given up that fight. Those pellets are forever in my bedroom closet and car no matter how often I  vacuum.
