Michael Mayer 2023 NFL Draft Prospects

Decent TEs are one thing.   A game changing TE is something different.   When Eifert was here (and healthy) he was a game changer.    I like Hurst, but I don't think he's a game changer.  I think Mayer will be, for someone.

    Don't you dare!

  • You’re no doubt correct. As long as Joe, Jamarr and Tee are healthy we are going to have a top 8 offense at least. We can plug a guy like Hayden in there and be fine. I think looking at Mike, the

Is that still a thing?

I think I need to create a "tongue in cheek" emoji just for you, @futurecoach!  That's twice that I got you.

Kiper has him as the 13th rated prospect. That's about 19 picks too soon ?

I'd love to see the Eagles move back a few picks (they are currently have a top 5 pick with the Saints pick) to pick up some draft collateral and draft Mayer. He'd fit well in that offense and be a nice complement to the current TE Goedert (who will likely be moved in a few years and isn't quite elite) and that receiving core.

TE's get beat up in the NFL.  They almost always miss games with injuries.  As much as I'd like to see him in stripes I would rather the Bengals look at other positions with their pick and resign Hurst.

Pitts was supposed to be a can't miss guy and he has underwhelmed so far.  I don't see Mayer going until the mid to late first round.  I could see Dallas as a landing spot.

This Mock Draft (admittedly, completely useless) has him going at 20 to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Completely useless may be putting it nicely. They have the Ravens taking another safety in the first round the year after taking Kyle Hamilton. I would think that is highly unlikely.

Saw another Mock that had Mayer going to the Lions at, I believe, pick 15.

'He's a sure-fire first-rounder': Former Covington Catholic star Michael Mayer prepares for the NFL

From the article:

"Obviously every team has been in contact with him," Eviston said. "I think he has to be on their (draft) board - almost every team in the league. Almost crazy if he wasn't. I think he's ready for anything. I know he just wants to see, 'Hey where I'm going and let's go.' "

Mayer's draft range varies from No. 15 (Green Bay) to No. 28 (Cincinnati). Mock drafts aren't reliable but Mayer has earned a favorable spotlight in the national media.

....

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller said Mayer is the top tight end in this draft class.

"I do think he's a sure-fire first-rounder," Miller said. "The all-around game he brings. A little bit of a throwback with the toughness, the blocking. But, he's a fantastic tight end for sure."

I’d like to see him as a Bengal but also do agree that tight ends get beat up and it’s a tough decision.

Mayer is awesome and I would love to see him play for the Bengals. However, if a  highly rated CB is available along with Mayer, the Bengals have to pick the CB. CB over TE all day, every day.

Probably going 2nd round!

Hopefully to a team in AFC North and he can come back and take it out on the Bengals twice a year.
