Undefeated Hornets Try To Overcome History And Subtract Ads From The Playoffs

Records: Metcalfe County (11-0) | Danville (5-6)

BGP Ranking: Metcalfe County (#5 in 2A) | Danville (#10 in 2A)

Series History: Danville leads 5-0 all-time

Table Setter: Let's get the traumatic past out of the way. Not only has Metcalfe County never beaten Danville, they've never really been in the ballpark. The average score of the previous five meetings is 56-4. The Hornets were beaten before they got off the bus. Most of those losses came to Sam Harp coached teams that were winning state titles.

On a more positive note for Metcalfe County, Harp moved on long ago and the Admirals are not in a favorable position to add to the trophy case this season. It's the Hornets that boast an unbeaten record and lofty ranking. Wyatt Blythe has done more than his share to help his team achieve those heights. He's one of the top two-way players in 2A, at receiver and defensive back. Metcalfe will also pose problems with their size and physicality up front.

There's no mistaking who you need to contain to beat Danville. Demauriah Brown is a one man wrecking crew, conjuring up memories of a former 'Title Town'  Mr. Football of the same name. Running back is his natural position, but he frequently takes the snaps. If you're Metcalfe County, make someone else beat you. Easier said than done when he touches the ball on nearly every play.

This should be a very good game. If Danville attacks Metcalfe between the tackles they won’t get much, as Metcalfe is very good up front, but if Danville is able to get brown on the edge, they can do damage.
Metcalfe struggles with elite speed. With that said, if you have issues stopping the power run, you don’t want to see Metcalfe County. They will pound the ball down your throat over and over until you stop it, and then throw in a quick screen or a go route to Blythe. Metcalfe is going to be a tough matchup for about everyone they play as they are that good up front and stop the run really well.

I may just make my way to this game Friday night. Give me Metcalfe 28-21

So remind me how the third round plays out if Danville wins and If MC wins.

If Danville wins against Metcalfe County and everything else stays chalk then the matchups would be:

Danville at Owensboro Catholic

LCA at Mayfiled

If Metcalfe County wins and everything else stays chalk then it’s:

LCA at Owensboro Catholic

Metcalfe County at Mayfield

Danville is big and physical upfront and Brown is one of the fastest dudes I’ve seen on a high school football field. He doesn’t go down easily and has great vision. The biggest thing for Danville is if they can handle adversity in the event they get down a score or two. They tend to implode when things aren’t going their way.
