I've watched Douglass have equal to or more talent than the class for the number of years they've been in 5A. Just about every game they've played of magnitude they have the best athletes on the field. It never makes sense to me why they have a tendency to come up short. Attribute it to coaching, just a bad game, or whatever the reason.. It seems to happen way more often than not.

Maybe this will be the year that they break through. But its hard for me to change until the facts change.

Deuce is good at the ratings but O needs to prove they are top 5 and they haven’t.  They probably are top 2 in talent but in results nope.  Terrible game against OCath.  No top 10 5A team loses to them.  O was without a bunch that game but no excuse.  And even when they (Owensboro) were going to still win the game gave up a last minute Hail Mary bomb.  Pitiful.  Until they show it I say no top 10.  I’m not going to blow the trumpet them until they play like they are capable.

They have 13 players with Division 1 offers on their roster. The only thing we have ever seen that compares is 2012 Trinity. Will take a perfect night for someone in 5A to beat them

The difference is that Trinity is very well coached and disciplined, or has been.  Can’t say the same for Douglass the past couple years, maybe they turned the page this year.  We’ll know when they play Boyle.

Burton, Key, Neal the other Clemson lineman, Crowdus.  Do they have any players as good as these?  I would guess no, but they are the best it looks like this year.

I think Owensboro is capable of beating them, they can match them athletically, and have the horses to score as well. I think it’s just a matter of Owensboro playing up the the potential they have. They have some really impressive looking athletes when they walk out onto the field. I hope we get the chance to see them play.

I get the loss to Owensboro Catholic will grind on you for the next year, but every time you make these Owensboro comments you disrespect O Cath. They are having a heck of a season. I am not saying Owensboro Catholic beats these teams, but based on the teams they have beaten their resume is better than:

Logan County (#7 in 4A), Paducah Tilghman (#4 in 3A), Warren East (#9 in 4A), Lawrence County (#5 in 3A), Mason County (#8 in 3A), Central (#5 in 4A)

 

@Voice of ReasonIt would probably be wise for me to shut up - but...  It's not my intent to disrespect any team's win.  They earned it and are a solid 2A team.  My point about this poll - This Owensboro team is loaded, senior driven team.  The last 3 years they have been in the semi's and lost a close game to Douglass, beat Douglass and then lost to BG at State and lost to Douglass in semis last year.   

Played St. X good and were threatening at the goal line in 2nd half late.  O should have marched through the rest of their schedule until Henderson.  They didn't - I don't care if that was Daviess or Catholic. After talking how good they have been and will be, I think devil fans are taking a step back.  Graves win was nice, but Graves is rebuilding - always a tough team but rebuilding.  There is NOTHING on O's win chart that says top 10.  But there is SOMETHING that says "not top 10".

So reiterating that my point is this poll - until proven O shouldn't be on there.  Beat Henderson at Henderson, then I say top 5.   Are they top 10 in reality - I would say so, but show me the money Jerry.

Yes, I agree, FD is the most talented and should be the favorite for the 5A crown. BUT... we've been saying this over and over for the last four/five years.  To me, they've been out coached in several important games during this span.  

5A is the most fun to watch, anything can happen after the 2nd round.  Will the Bronco's finally complete their run?? 

@FB Head they made several questionable decisions in last year's state championship game.
