South Oldham puts its 5-game winning streak on the line as the Dragons face the RedHawks of Seneca.

After opening the season 0-3 against a brutal schedule including Christian Academy of Louisville, Fairdale, and Ballard, the Dragons have dominated the competition ever since, winning five straight and moving to 3-0 in district play as they seek to defend their district title.   South dominated county rivals North Oldham and Oldham County to start the streak, then routed Jeffersontown, Atherton, and North Bullitt in the last three games.

During the streak, South has scored over 40 points four times (they tallied 38 in a 21 point win over Atherton), and they have outscored the competition during that five game stretch,  209-32, with two shutouts.

The Dragons, fresh off a 40-point drubbing of district rival North Bullitt last week, also welcomed back starting running back Jack McCubbin.    McCubbin, a versatile senior back who rushed for 628 yards and 10 scores last year, while also catching 11 passes for 113 yards and another TD, only got 4 touches (rushing for a total of 15 yards), but he should start to see more handles this week against the RedHawks.

Coming into Friday's game, Jeffrey Burton leads South with 706 yards rushing and 9 TDs, while QB Nick Hamilton has thrown for 1,074 yards and 6 TDs.

The defense, led by Wyatt Fowler's 54 total tackles and 6 sacks, is a ball-hawking defense, with 13 fumble recoveries and 14 INT in just 8 games.      Eight different Dragons have interceptions this year.

Seneca comes in at 6-1, the Redhawks' first 6+ win season since 2008.   They come in off a bye; their last game - a 43-26 victory over North Bullitt two weeks ago - was the school's first district win in six years.   Keith Eckloff, in his fourth year as head coach at Seneca, seems to have things going in the right direction after winning just 4 games in his first three seasons there.

In a season with some "firsts", a win over South would be notable; it would be Seneca's first win over a team with a winning record since beating Glasgow (8-4), 33-22, on 10/3/2014.

QB Antwan Young has thrown for over 1,100 yards with 10 TDs and only 3 INT.....   The running game hasn't been quite as effective, but Coryion Martin (363 yards rushing / 7 TDs) and Leedrick Washington (318 yards rushing / 10 TDs) can keep the opposing defenses honest.     On the O-Line, watch Jeremiah Board, a 4-year starter, who checks in at 6-5, 310 pounds, a mountain to move, he's a solid, experienced, veteran performer.

Terance Wilson leads the Redhawks in total tackles with 43 - including a whopping 10 TFL.     Coach Eckloff is high on his defense, and it has held 5 teams to 6 points or less - but the 'Hawks' "D" hasn't produced many sacks (4), interceptions (3), or fumble recoveries (6) so far this year.

Common opponents:

North Bullitt                  South beat NB, 46-6                  Seneca beat NB, 43-26

Atherton                        South beat Atherton, 38-17       Seneca lost to Atherton, 58-27

South has won the last four meetings between the two schools; Seneca last beat South in 2001, when the Louisville team edged the Dragons, 14-11.

South has owned the series the last three years, winning 68-0 in 2019, 63-0 in 2020, and 42-0 last year.

A win for the Dragons guarantees South a winning season; head coach Jamie Reed, in his 13th season, has never coached a Dragon team to a losing record.
