Trinity being sued by WLKY sports director Fred Cowgill

The guy just flushed his legacy of over 25 years of quality sports reporting down the drain.

Frivolous lawsuit. If your on sideline, there is risk of getting hit. You would think a sports reporter would know that.

  • This is floating around Facebook, I assume we could apply it to Franklin County now:

  • I was at this game. This is 100% a money grab. If he felt like there were too many people on the sidelines, he could have removed himself.

Agree with you 100%.

He should withdraw the suit, offer a public apology with hat in hand....

Exactly!

Furthermore Fred, in my opinion you should consider seeing a competent mental health care provider, clearly something is not right.

How could you be talked into this?  Fred Cowgill always struck me as a level headed guy and as someone who has lived in Louisville for 25 years, I appreciated his work.  But this is just blatantly, obviously a poor move for him to make.  Could his lawyers have talked him into this?  (AH, they will settle and we'll walk away with a ton of cash??)

Just trying to find a path to make this make sense...

If he wins this suit you can say goodbye to any type of Camera folks, reporters etc... No school can afford to allow that to happen...this is a crazy crazy world we live in today!

Based on the reaction of the general public in this forum and on social media, I would avoid a jury trial at all costs. He seems to not have a ton of support.

Right, any attorney worth her/his salt would now know this case is a big loser and therefore take a different course of action.

I tend to agree.  If this case is successful then because of the precedent I believe every school would have to ban everyone from the sidelines unless they are an active player, coach, or some type of official.

This has to be one of the dumbest lawsuits I've seen in a while. The nerve on this dude to file this is almost hard to believe.

Worked in TV at WBKO in BG while at Western as a Broadcasting major and let me say it was awful to have to call him and ask for highlights sent to us for UofL or UK. It was made clear to us that we were a complete hinderance on him and his staff and we would get whatever he felt like sending. But when WKU hoops was in the Sweet 16 or football was winning the Natty, then we owed him for past deals and we better send it right away. This lawsuit does not surprise me in the least bit. This is his character and what he is capable of.

That being said, I was on the opposite sideline calling the game on radio for T and saw the whole thing. As a video journalist, you are taught to film with both eyes open, one in the lens and the other watching for plays like this. If you have both eyes open, you don't get hit. The person who taught me that worked for Fred at WLKY.

I know I am obviously biased, but you've seen the video and read the lawsuit...This will be a quick case and Freddy can take his keister back to New York where he belongs and hopefully Rob and Rob make sure he never sees Jansing Field again.

I would probably also suggest Fred quit bragging about his golf game on social media. He finished 2nd in a big tournament last week.

His knee must be fine then.

Think about the Pandora's Box that could come of it.....an official gets hurt, why can't he then sue.  On so many levels, this needs to be shot down.

This is what I've been told about the real Fred Cowgill....and more stories like this are coming to the surface.

Think David Simms (Don Johnson) from Tin Cup, or better yet Phil Mickelson...... simply frauds.

Hopefully a retirement is in the very near future.
