He is a high major talent and will have plenty of options to play at a high level. Just wasn't the right fit for what Cal and UK wanted out of him.

Agreed. Plenty of places his game can fit.  Allen isn't an elite athlete but he's a great shooter with some athleticism and length.  I'll cheer for him anytime he isn't playing UK. And hope he gets a chance to.

I buy this on some level, but the thought is Cal rode him too hard and broke his confidence with a short leash. From my vantage, the reason Allen didn't work at UK is because he was a one trick pony and didn't develop. He was lost on defense and unless wide open in a catch and shoot situation, he brought nothing on the offensive end. Now maybe it was coaching that was the cause of these things, but Allen looked to be the same player as he was the year before. Last year - on arguably UK's least talented team ever - Allen was the 8th guy, at best. He was not going to be any better than guy #10 without vast improvement and it just didn't happen.

I agree with that assessment. Do you think he will be better at another P5 school?

Yes, but that is not saying much. With more reps, run, and confidence, he will improve. I'm not worried about him shooting the ball, but the inability to guard his position and inability to create on offense I would worry about.

My buddy is convinced he's going to Louisville and will tear it up there.  I said, he will get torched trying to defend in the ACC.

When a kid transfers to another school, lots of times new life comes to the athlete, he may improve in several aspects of his game including the willingness to break down and play great defense, he definitely has the tools to accomplish this, hopefully we will see him somewhere next season balling like he is capable.

If you are saying Allen was not willing to break down and play great defense, that is on him.

Personally, and you will like this part, I saw Allen working hard on defense in his limited minutes this year.

Now this part you might not like. Allen just wasn't good on defense. He made mistakes and Cal had a short leash.

This part you will like. I think Cal was too quick to yank Allen and did not give him enough time to learn and improve in game situations.

I've often wondered how big a role his knee injury from the senior year of high school played in his defensive struggles at Kentucky?

I just don't see Allen reinventing his game over the summer, still believe he might want to go a bit smaller.
