Mitch Barnhardt: Kentucky must return to championship level

UK athletic director Mitch Barnhardt has said that Kentucky must return to championship level, that the fans deserve it.

Does this mean anything? Putting pressure on Cal? Coaching change?

Maybe he can bring Billy G. back.

  • No they don't. This isn't the 1970s when the weekly radio show (who in the hell listens to the radio these days?) was your only access to a team's head coach. People care about winning, not the same w

  • As an aside, there would be no way in hell I would ever take phone calls from Kentucky fans. "Where's Richie?"

That is listed on Cal's contract as the nikeman49 clause.

Was this the same radio show that Cal didn’t show up for? Or wouldn’t answer any questions?

Here I thought I was going to agree with you after my like on your initial comment and then you follow it up with this haha!

If I was Calipari and Tom Leach, I would handle all their radio shows like they did this week.  A lot less nonsense from fans on the calls and Tom Leach didn't shy away, I don't think.

As for me, his statement means nothing.  Just fodder for those wanting to potentially fire Cal and keep them at bay.

My gosh, why would anyone want to fire Cal?

For a guy making 6 million per year, he should have to answer every question each week don’t you think, a guy with all of that experience and expertise shouldn’t mind that.

I'd rather he be out recruiting so he can put together a team that will lead to less of those questions.

Not much of a chance of that happening.

Not if he's on the road recruiting.

And I also don't think he should have to answer to every idiot with a phone in KY.  I'd much rather listen to him asked strong questions from Leach or whomever.  And he was asked good questions.

Good question because I'm not there and have yet to see a legitimate replacement suggested that would come to Kentucky except for maybe Bruce Pearl, who didn't make it past the first weekend with a better team than Cal and is a stretch to me anyway.

Brad Stevens isn't moving to Lexington.

If it's true that his current buyout is 52 million, than he isn't going anywhere unless he chooses to do so.

I've heard that he can coach at UK for one more year then retire (if he chooses too) and UK will owe him $1 MIL a year for the rest of his life.

This is a little off the subject of this thread but I saw where Kyle Tucker had posted on Twitter that UK was dropping the checker laced uniforms next season, I suppose in all sports. Has anyone else got any info on that? Not that it has anything to do with winning a title. ?

I would not care if he were paid $75M/year and had delivered 10 national titles. People are freaking nuts and the more distance you can keep from the crazies, the better.

That’s not the proper protocol for building public relations between head coach and the public. Actually the public deserves better than this.
