If Covington Catholic moves down to 4A, Freddie and South Warren move up to 6A I think it makes 5A a lot less interesting.  Not that there couldn't be very competitive season, but that's 3 of the consistently top 6 (give or take a down year) moving divisions.  I don't see BG playing up, but I could be wrong.  Scott County, Bowling Green, Highlands, Owensboro, Woodford, Pulaski and Southwestern would still be quite competitive I believe, but nothing like the past couple years.

 

However, I do think these changes would make 4A and 6A much more entertaining.  Freddie D and South Warren on a normal year can play with the best of them.  Covington Catholic has also been very good in 5A for a while now, so 4A would add another very competitive team.

True. I probably spoke a little soon there.

However, I'm showing nine teams in the Central Kentucky area for Class 6A and only three in northern Kentucky (Campbell/Ryle/Simon Kenton). I could envision a situation where Great Crossing plays in NKY and the six Lexington schools plus GRC/Madison Central are divided into two four-team districts.

Agree with all of this. However, South Warren is one Class 5A team moving up to 6A from being eligible to drop back to 5A.

Bowling Green will never play up. I don’t see that happening ever. Really no reason to.

Me either. A district with the Hardins or western Kentucky doesn't make sense when you could stay with Bowling Green and Greenwood and also remain among the five best schools in the class.

I agree, Bowling Green and South currently do this with lacrosse and it's certainly a headache.  Not only the travel, but you're right I think they try to remain in 5A.

As a Warren Central supporter, I would describe my mood as dismayed. I cannot believe they have enough males to be in 5A, and this is basically worst case scenario. They simply do not belong on the field with Bowling Green, and I believe it is highly likely South Warren still ends up in that district, and that would be even worse. I’m praying three teams request to play up from 4A, or at least CovCath plus someone else, as I would hope Highlands would stay up.  Central somehow needs to find their way down to 4A or their momentum they FINALLY developed gets stopped dead.

It appears Warren Central is the third smallest in the Class 5A group. So they'd need two or three teams to play up. I could certainly see Covington Catholic choosing to play up (which would likely hold second-smallest Highlands where they are). I could maybe see someone like Lincoln County playing up (which would likely drop smallest Harlan County). Of course you never know how schools will approach this - probably some white knuckles at Warren Central over the next two weeks.

South Warren moves down. I would think Apollo next of another team moves up.

I sure hope not for Bracken County’s sake…. Polar Bears are hoping someone, just one team, will play up to 2A or not be in district play.
