Your proving my point, which was a players overall ability is best determined by paid professionals who make a living off of evaluating talent for their teams

and get fired if they don't pick the right kids. d-1 isn't the overiding factor, although a big one, but there are a lot of great players who couldnt cut it academically or had other issues. Bottom line, your example of Rodman and Payton is true, but their abilities were "validated" by someone who got paid to make those decisions and they got college scholarships and played professionally. I'm not that familiar with the players on your list, but did they play anywhere after High school? I'm sure none of them played professionally or I would have known that, but just curious as to what they did with basketball after high school?

Rick Hensley played at TCU and was a key player that beat the #1 team in the state in the finals of the regional in 1972. If I was making a list for Russell, I would have to have him on it

 

You being from the area makes it hard to believe that you are not familiar with my players but I will inform you about them the best that I can. Chris Jones went to the University of Kentucky as a walk on. Mark Watkins went to a college in Tennessee, Milligan I believe where he played for Ron Reed. Roberts, Synstricker and Ryan Watkins I am not sure what they did after high school as far as playing sports is concerned. And yes, Rick Hensley was a very good player and if you want to start your own Russell list with him then that is wonderful, I have finished making my list and am very happy with it.

If she never played FOR the boys team, its tough to list her. Not to mention this is the boys forum.

Maybe it would be a more rational argument and settle the IQ debate if you listed all the Russell players who have made first team all state and received

a d-1 scholarship. Seems like that criteria would eliminate most of the "personal" opinion

Just one more example of how that going D1, while being something to be proud of, still does not always equate being a better player than someone who did not go to a D1 school and I am very sure that you know this local player. Ty Barnes did not go to a NCAA school but I think that you would have to admit that he is a better player than the players that you felt I have slighted. And I guess I am not currently a "paid expert" but at one time I did make my living in the spectrum of sports media so I do feel that I know more than a little about what I am talking about.

In front of Bill Nolte???? Surely you jest. Thompson was barely able to play professionally (Europe and South America, I believe) for a decade or so.

 

Nolte, on the other hand, played well into his 40's at the YMCA, drafting some of the finest talent that the area had to offer.

 

And if you want to limit the conversation to just their high school careers, well, there really is no comparison...

The most natural talent was Kenny Baxter. David Fox may have accomplished the most with the least amount of talent.
