2022 Beijing Winter Olympics

Made sure to tune in last night for Shaun White's last competitive run of his career.  A medal wasn't meant to be for him yesterday, competing against some guys that were half his age.  A true legend of his sport.

When Sha'Carri's case first surfaced I was sick of hearing about it. You tested positive for something you knew was on a list, period. I don't care if the substance was chocolate milk, if it's on a li

  • I will watch a little bit because after all it is the Olympics but my interest is only a fraction of what it was years ago.

Norway always kills it in the Winter Olympics because they live their lives in the frozen tundra, lol.

Favorite to watch is the curling.

I tuned in for Chen ice skating, Shaun White and also the women's halfpipe.

Not watching much else.

I just can't do that kind of curling.

Good for them!

Yeah winter olympics always seems to see the Scandinavian countries, Austria and Switzerland in the mix for just about everything.  When you have lots of cold and lots of mountains, you have lots of practice.

The good::

  • Shawn White's last Olympic ride.
  • 40 year old Nick Baumgartner earning a gold medal.

The bad:

  • 100% artificial "snow".  Seems more like ice sheets.
  • No fans or family.   Empty venues.

The ugly:

  • The ski jump with with cooling towers and waste pond next door.

I know right!

USA Currently in 3rd behind Norway and ROC. 7 Gold , 6 silver, 3 Bronze for 16.

I'd throw Erin Jackson winning gold in the 500m speed skating as a huge "Good" too.  First US Women's gold since 1994 and first black woman to win an individual medal.

She wouldn't have even been there if one of her teammates didn't give up her spot for Erin.  Sounds like she slipped during qualifying.

I also see where a member of the Russian Olympic Committee is under investigation for a banned substance, imagine that...

Looks like the athlete is their 15 year old figure skater who landed the first quad jump in women's olympic figure skating history.

She is back competing and in the lead in the short program or something close to that.  The report I listened to said something about being under 16 and not being punished.  So Russia can't compete as Russia because of this stuff, it happens again as the ROC, and the athlete and "the ROC" are still able to compete.  What a joke!

Her defense was the substance entered her body because it was something being given to her grandfather, so by droplets it infiltrated her system. Seriously.

I know I've asked this before, but what do you more value in judging Olympic success? Total medals or total gold medals?
