Attending championship weekend at Kroger Field in Lexington got me thinking about what team has the greatest football fan base in terms of crowd size, willingness to travel, and energy that they bring to their team?

After talking to several neutral fans on Saturday, we all came to the conclusion that Boyle County fans are either near or at the top of any list for the greatest Kentucky high school football fan bases. What other fan bases are passionate about their team?

Looking at attendance at the championship games, as you would expect, the highest attendance was the 6A game.

The second highest attendance was the 2A game between Beechwood and LCA. 

I look at this question in two ways, the best student body section I have seen in KY is no question Cov Cath. The colonel crazies are awesome and that is coming from an HHS guy. 

In terms of overall fan base that is willing to travel/supportive/etc. I have to but my HHS fan base in the running and Beechwood from NKY. 
 

 

I think the St. X and Trinity fan bases are pretty good. They are large and usually travel well.

Totally agree on all fronts!

Highlands, Cov Cath, Beechwood, Johnson Central, Belfry... a lot.

Doesn’t matter where you go you’ll always see a St. X sticker on a car.

If you're talking about student section, Cov Catholic by a landslide. If you're talking about fans base in general or fans that travels well, FT. Highlands, X, T, Beechwood and Cov Cath.

I would add Pikeville to this list, they always represent no matter where they are playing

Mayfield with their 5 hour drive had more fans at Beechwood for their semifinal game than local team Walton Verona did the week before.

Boyle fans barely cheered during the championship game. I sat in the middle of them.

So true!!  Like a Steelers' fan, you can't go anywhere and not find at least one.
