If Mark Stoops leaves...

I don't think 99% of the UK fan base believes UK will beat Alabama in the next decade or two unless Saban retires and Bama hires the worst coach on the planet and I would say the odds of that are pretty remote.

Also, UofL is favored, not sure I agree with that I am  certainly not confident of a win.

If this team wasn't banged up they are  clearly the better team. I still believe UK will win. Probably won't be the big win if they do win like  it would've have been imo if  the line wasn't  banged up.

Louisville has nothing to do with UK not beating Alabama in the near future.

I fully believe if UK can continue to get better players on their lines, they will upset Alabama in the next few years  and for sure would if we played Bama every year.

I have to think UC would play UGA closer than 17 points, still lose but closer.

I disagree with that, Georgia would smoke UC imo.

The Kentucky Team that played Georgia Would beat Cinci this year. SEC the better conference I wouldn't say Fickell wouldn't leave UC. If UC played in the SEC they wouldn't be in the top 4. Money talks as well.

The Kentucky team of anytime this year would lose to UC 9 times out of 10.

The Kentucky Football job is not a job a successful UC Head coach would leave for, it simply isn’t. The UC football job helps land much bigger jobs than UK. Zero reason to leave UC for UK.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Fair enough.

Same thing was said less then a year ago and Georgia needed a 52 yard field goal with 5 seconds left to beat UC in what was basically a home game in Atlanta...Oh and that was with UC not having their two All American DB's, starting running back, starting center, and losing their 4th round draft pick All Conference tackle right before the half.

Hopefully we find out just how off your opinion is in a little over a month.

As for coaches if Stoops left. Obviously they have three guys on staff that would have a shot at it.

I think Neal Brown would be contacted, and could be interested because of his UK ties.

Other people I would reach out to though if I was UK would be Chris Peterson, and Gary Patterson. I’m not sure if either would be interested but I think you would have to at least call them. Both of them would be great hires IMO.

I also would contact Clay Helton who was fired from USC.

My most favorite hire though would be Tom Herman. I think he is a very good coach and is an offensive guy which I like.

Would UK speak with Jeff Brohm if Stoops were to leave?

Maybe once. Not enough big time players in KY since there are only 175 or so schools. Tough to get 20 or so really good out of staters. Transfer Portal and NIL money will be the key.

I never said we would beat them every time we played just that we would upset them once in a while like we do Florida and Georgia if we played Alabama every year.

I think Mitch Barnhart looks at things a little differently than going after a big name that has floated around college football. If you look at the Stoops hire, Mark wasn't necessarily a big up and coming name in college football but more of a personality. He had the name, yes; but more because of his brother than anything. I think Mitch would want someone to embrace the "back against the wall" and "why not us" attitude that Stoops has instilled in the program.

With that said, I think a few names to consider are:

1. Luke Fickell - Luke seems to be a "lunch pail" guy that would fit in to the culture that Stoops has created. UC fans can laugh at this idea all they want, but facts are facts and the new and short lived Big 12 is nothing special;  resources at UK compared to UC are night and day, and the ceiling at UK is so much higher than UC. Plus Lexington is close enough to suit Mrs. Fickell. Strong recruiter.

2. Scott Frost  - Great coach. Very strong recruiter. Nebraska will probably let him go because of their absurd expectations for a program who hasn't done anything significant in 20+ years. Scott will be highly motivated and has that "lets get to work: attitude.

3. Neal Brown - Obviously has the UK connection and has done some solid things at WVU and I would hope that he would do even better with the resources available to him at UK. I have always gotten the impression that Neal left UK in order to run his own program to build his resume to be the HC at UK. I would guess that he wants this job BAD!

3. Liam Coen - His offensive mind is clearly on another level. I would be willing to debate that he has been one of the best OC in the country this year, all things considered.  I haven't seen anything at UK close to his offensive development since Hal Mumme. I know it is not fair to him for me to say, but I worry about his lack of HC experience and running a program the size of UK.

I truly hope Stoops does not leave. However, if he does, there are going to be coaches jumping to get this job. Great money. Recent success to continue recruiting. Great boosters. Realistic expectations. Awesome area to live.

Very underrated job IMO.

I don't think you have to worry about Stoops leaving, but if Stoops were to leave there is zero chance Fickell leaves UC for Kentucky.
