BluegrassPreps Class 2A Football Rankings 9/20

Now with that being said I think Beechwood is the better team but if Mayfield is able to get them at War Memorial I think it evens the playing field.  Traveling that many hours to go play a high school game is not easy for anybody to do.  If Mayfield has to travel to Beechwood then I think Beechwood gets the win.

  • What is great about this game is that eventually Mayfield and Beechwood will have to settle in on the field. Whether that is in NKY or war memorial. RPI’s, rankings, schedules and the opinions of old

Actually 6-15.  And Mayfield has played one team with a winning record. This week they play winless Fort Campbell.

  • There are still a lot of moving parts to the RPI. If Beechwood beats Dixie, and Dixie wins the majority of their remaining games, along with Cov Cath and Fairdale stock piling 5A wins down the stretch

This is what I said;

"All I know is that if Mayfield holds that #2 spot in the RPI playing them in November at War Memorial is not an easy task.  Most cases you are down 14 points before the opening kickoff."

I would like for you to highlight the word unbeatable in that statement if you could for me.

I know you didn’t say it. I know I have heard many people say that in the past. As in the 14 points I don’t believe that at all. I’m sure if Mayfield is superior than the team they are playing then yes I would believe it. But if the team is equal or even better I don’t believe that at all.

Whoever has to travel it’s going to suck for the road team. The playoffs will be fun to watch whoever comes out on top.

This discussion does not help Mayfield. Every point you are making about Beechwood's schedule applies to Mayfield as well. Mayfield has played one good team - Graves County. The schedules for both are mirror images of quality or lack of quality.

Also, you are selling Paintsville short. They are 2-2 and their 2 losses are to Beechwood  and Pikeville, the #1 teams in 1A and 2A. They will be a final four team in 1A, perhaps even return to the title game.

And Beechwood is beating those teams in impressive fashion. Mayfield is scoring less and giving up more.

I've been watching games for over 50 years. I think I have some knowledge about this. Mayfield will go toe to toe with Beechwood.

I don't mean to sound rude, but you can watch games for over 100 years and that won't change the fact Mayfield isn't better than beechwood in my opinion.  I'm also not sure where I said they couldn't go toe to toe with them, but take it whatever way you want.

Beechwood is better than Mayfield right now, Neutral field, Beechwood beats Mayfield by 2 TDs.

Because they are playing better football teams.

Beechwood is clearly the best team in 2A, somebody come and get a good ole fashioned butt kicking!

Yes I’m sure a few of them are but I will take the Tigers schedule any day over Mayfield’s. From what I heard since I don’t know much about it the RPI isn’t helping teams play out of state teams.

Boy this is going to be a long season on all of these ranking posts!!!! It doesn’t matter who is better or who has won in the past. The RPI is going to do what it does and whoever gets that 2 seed is going to have a bit of a leg up on the 3 seed. Regardless talking about a game that is a month and a half away is crazy. That didn’t work well for Mayfield last year when they got upset by Murray. Anything can happen on any given night. Let’s just see how this breaks out the rest of the season. I just wish Beechwood could get in that 1 seed but LCA has earned the RPI lead as they have beaten some top quality opponents.

LCA definitely has something to say about this.

I have no dog in this fight....

But I do know that Coach Morris calls off the dogs when they are up by 25 or more.  No way to check really, but the younger players have gotten a lot of second half playing time in just about every game.

Hoptown & Tilghman could very well play for a regional 'ship this year.  Graves has a good enough team to get to Semis.  McCracken Co is going through their worst season in school history but they have dominated 6A District 1 for a while. The Calloway game happened b/c Coach Champion is a Mayfield guy.

Not sure how that stacks up vs Beechwood's competition but I think Mayfield's schedule is solid.

Don't get me wrong, I currently place the Tigers over Mayfield at the moment.  It will be fun when these two meet in November... if it happens!
