2 good teams 4 miles apart - battle of graves county!  Both teams have their star RB returning.  The game is at Mayfield.  I know from playing Graves, they will hit you till the final horn.  I believe Mason Grant is back - exceptional WR.  I don't believe either team will willingly give in at any point.  Losing the big Brown kid has to hurt somewhat, but really Graves had the better team last year.  Graves has a lot of SR returnees from what I've heard.  Can they lock down Kylan Galbreath?  Tough task.  I think Galbreath breaks 2, but Graves comes to play.  Grant player of the game.  Is that enough predictions?

The key to the game will be stopping the run of both sides.  Both will be better defensively.  This is a toss up.  I don’t thing Cartwright has the vision to make the necessary plays to beat Graves with his arm and lack of mobility.  It is close…. Eagles 17-14.

Mayfield has another Qb that I think they plan on using. Dabney is his last name. They rotated every series in the scrimmage. When the ball is in his hands he is threat!

I don't think we will see Cartwright 100% of the time behind center. Not sure if they will roll with the 2 QB system like they did a few years ago or make these two battle it out over the next couple of years. I believe both are sophomores. The difference is those last two Qbs they did that with could have started for probably 90% of teams in the state.

Dabney is a really good athlete. He started last year at safety as a freshman and had a handful of snaps under center.  He definitely is more mobile and can make plays.  Not sure if he is ready to come in and produce at a high level vs a veteran defense the Eagles will bring.  I did hear he looked good vs Christian Co in their scrimmage.  Although, just about everyone looked good vs the Colonels.  Graves is maybe a step below from being a top tier team in 5A this year.  I still believe it will be a close game and can go either way.

I think Mayfield wins its hard to not pick them, especially at War Memorial.

Graves was a top 10 5A school last year IMHO - superb offense and good athletes.  They should be again.

Dabney is not even close to being the starter… the position belongs to a much improved Cartwright…no criticism of GC defense at all, but this is not last years Cardinal offense. So, I stand by my score prediction…This is strictly my own opinion, and i have been wrong before. ?

This game is Joey Fosko night for Mayfield & Graves County. $1 of each ticket sold to Friday night's game goes to the 1st Region Athletic Directors Association Joey Fosko Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to two students from each school in the 1st Region, and is awarded based on their participation, character, and sportsmanship. The high school AD's in the region got together to create the scholarship in memory of longtime Paducah Sun sportswriter Joey Fosko three months after his death in June 2013.

Mayfield has had more practices than last year, the players have gotten older, in other words they should be muched improved. Graves had better gotten better on defense and offense or they could lose their first 3 games.
