Asking those in the River City - how bad are apparently random shootings? 

There was incident Sunday night on Hikes Lane by Goldsmith.  Victim drove himself to hospital will apparently recover.  But nothing in the news or media.  Police told neighbors that were interviewed that it was likely "gang related" as part of initiation.

I look around for news of this but instead find various other videos or stories about people being shot randomly or "mistaken identity".  The incident above was at the corner of the street I grew up on and where family still is.  So this one is too close.  But not finding any media about it seems odd. 

I don't think they are random at all. 

While the number is definitely up this year, it's more of the same in the "usual" neighborhoods. 

Two kids at bus stop shot this morning. Student from Eastern HS was identified as one of kids shot and has died. So sad! Hope those responsible are brought to justice!

I saw an interview several months ago discussing another city. The Detective (I think) said the biggest issue in most neighborhoods with a lot of shootings is that no one will testify or in many cases even give witness accounts of what happened, afraid of reprisals. He showed a sign on a telephone pole that basically said, Snitches get stitches or wind up in ditches.

I don't know the answer, I wouldn't want to target someone that may come shoot up my house either.

So it probably wasn't a random thing but a planned out targeted hit directed towards a particular person.

So very sad.

We're seeing this all over the country.  Ohio State was forced to allocate more than 20 million dollars for enhanced campus security today.  They've had multiple shootings in broad daylight next to campus recently, parents are absolutely revolting.  I think 10 years from now, security is going to come down to who can afford it, given the way police officers are viewed today.  Columbus I heard is down 80 cops.  As I stated before my best friend is high ranking cop in KY.  He keeps joking with me about joining up.  I keep telling him the starting salary better be over 100K to get my attention, nobody in the right mind should be a cop for less in this climate.

Police were called to the area for reported shooting.

Just another day in the Ville! 

I just skimmed a CBS article that ranks Louisville as the 46th most deadly city in America with a murder rate of 13.92 per 100,000.

Cincinnati is 19th.  Baltimore came in at 2nd and St. Louis 1st.

Cincinnati is 19th.  Baltimore came in at 2nd and St. Louis 1st.

 Cincinnati police chief made a public statement recently urging parents to get their kids under control. He lamented the number of shootings among teenagers and the number of guns including AK47s that teens have easy access to today.

Duece summed it up pretty well.  There are about 5 to 10 neighborhoods in Louisville where if you threw out the murders (or crime in general) in those neighborhoods, Louisville would probably be among the safest cities in the country.  I try to make a point of staying out of those neighborhoods and pretty safe in Louisville.

Totally agree. The same can be said for large uptick in shootings in Cincinnati this year. Unfortunately, the "few bad apples" saying holds true.

If they know where the problem is specifically located, why can’t it be fixed?
