I keep seeing Archie Miller's name pop up for this job..... didn't he just get fired at IU? If he couldn't lead that program a month ago why is he going to be able to fix this mess? Who are names some of you think are candidates? Hey, how about Sean Miller lol?

Archie is probably out. Based on rumors, I'd say one of the following are named head coach by Wed:

Erik Martin- WVU assistant and former Bearcat - 92 final 4 and 93 Elite 8 teams (Nick VanExel would join him as an assistant)

Dennis Gates- Cleveland State HC (Horizon COY last two seasons) and longtime assistant under Leonard Hamilton at Florida State

Jerome Tang- Associate HC and Assistant for the past 18 seasons at Baylor

He’ll leave. But it won’t be because he’s mad. I’m actually surprised that Fickell hasn’t left for bigger and better already. Cincinnati football has always been a launchpad, not a destination. I’d gu

It would be nice if UC could quickly hire a new coach, settle with Brannen making it a non-disclosure settlement for both parties, and get on with hoops.

With UC being a public university, I'm under the impression that any financial terms of a settlement would be public knowledge. Details of what led to the settlement and firing could be kept out of public knowledge with a NDA. Could be wrong, but I think that's how it would work?

As I typed my response out I was wondering if the settlement would have to be disclosed by law.  I don't know and I assume there is at least some gray area.

I believe financial terms could be accessed through a FOIA... But details of the case could be kept private with a NDA.

It is obvious Cunningham doesn't have the goods he needs to get rid of Brannen and not have to pay the buyout.  I believe Brannen is getting a raw deal, plain and simple as that.  If UC wants to get rid of Brannen, that is their prerogative.  However, they need to honor the contract and pay the full buyout.

Do you think Cunningham is blameless in all of this?  From my perspective, he seems to be in a little over his head and it has showed with the way he has handled this from the beginning.  If I am the president of UC and see my basketball coach is not reporting to the AD, I am going to have some very serious questions for the AD.  Your AD needs to be involved and know what is going on with all sports and their coaches.  Who knows, perhaps if Brannen is reporting to Cunningham, like he should have been, there may have been a different ending to the story?

I think all of this starts with Brannen. If he was doing things the right way and had good relationships with his players, none of this would be happening. All your other comments and questions would be moot if Brannen had done his job.

The rest of your post was addressed well in Walter's post right after yours.

Gates has done a great job at CSU....but another Horizon coach? I know he'd do fine but do the big money guys think he's big time enough? Bottom line, the right donors at UC wanted Brannen out and Cunningham is their pawn in this mess. Negotiate, pay the guy, and move on to the next victim lol.

I worry about any other Horizon guy. Brannen came in and recruited like he was still at NKU. Same guys. Competing against the same schools. Meanwhile, Houston, Memphis, and Wichita State are recruiting nationally

Gates was the lead on some serious talent during his time at Florida State... During his final few seasons at FSU, he was mentioned as having a big impact in landing Dwayne Bacon, MJ Walker, Malik Beasley and Jonathon Isaacs.

I worry less about him recruiting than I did Brannen. John was never known as an elite recruiter during his time at Alabama before going to NKU and while he recruited decently during his time at UC, he couldn't keep those players around due to his personality.

From everything I've seen, Gates has that "IT" factor that draws kids to him. I think he would recruit well at UC.

I personally would like to see Erik Martin get the job due to his ties throughout Ohio. I think either him or Gates would do well but I prefer Martin with Nick Van Exel as his assistant. Martin and NVE would rejuvenate a fan base that has mostly been divided since Huggins departure.

You’re absolutely right. Maybe I’m just so beaten down by Brannen’s lack of charisma and vision. ??

I get it.... I'm just glad we finally have something different to look forward to.

Thinking back to certain comments Brannen made during press conferences and his overall demeanor, it's clear why he had trouble relating to today's athletes.

One comment that really sticks out to me that he would say often: "It's my job to define roles, and up to the player to accept that role." I just don't see how that approach would ever appeal to any player or recruit. Comments like that are why certain players probably thought they were manipulated and lied to once they got on campus.

Sounding like UC may have their guy in Erik Martin and potentially Martin bringing in NVE with him. If true, I would imagine Bearcat fans will be pretty happy.
