South Laurel was up 55-39 after 3Q but Trinity clawed back with suffocating defense and had lead near end of 4th quarter until South Laurel hit buzzer beater to move to 3-0. Trinity moves to 1-1. Big road win for South Laurel.

Wow, congrats South Laurel. 

It's early in the season but this is not a good loss at home to a team ranked 9th in 13th region preseason.

Looks like South Laurel way better than 9th or that is one heck of a region.

No chance South Laurel will end up 9th in the region. They’re annually one of the three best in the region and even having to replace some folks this year they’ll still be very good. 

Does Jeff Shepard’s son play for South Laurel? Or am I thinking of another school?

Plays for north laurel. 

South may be 5th in the 13th. 
 

Knox and North Laurel top 2. Harlan County third. Then probably Corbin and South rounding out top 5.. not a good loss by Trinity and huge win by south.

Trinity should not be struggling with the 4-5th ranked team in the 13th!   No offense meant to the 13th but they have been a top 5 program in the state for most of the past ten years.

If Covid protocols allow fans this season, I will have to see the team play but I have to assume the talent level is well below what they have had in the 2010-2020 decade. 

If Trinity played whole game like they did in 4th quarter they would have won handily. One game doesn’t make or break a season. Sometimes you just have bad day and other team has good day. Plenty more games to see to evaluate both these teams.

Coming into this season, Trinity had lost 38 games over the last five years.

Of those 38 games, 28 had been decided by less than 10 points.

Fourteen of those 28 - exactly half - had been decided by a field goal or less.

So....over a third of their losses (36%) during the last five years have come via 3 points or less, and nearly three-fourths (73%) have come by less than 10 points.

Pretty impressive, really.

I checked the KHSAA stats and for this game South  Laurel went `12-18 on 3's for 66.7%  and 12-19 on 2's. for 63.2%.
