I have my own rating I do where strip out bad teams and it had Owensboro at 75.4 with SOS 60.6. BG was 75.1 with SOS 72.5 which means very close game that could go either way. 

This is a fun state championship match up. Two old school staples of the second biggest classification. But they were usually on the same side of the bracket.
 

BG seems to be a very good, balanced, disciplined football team. Owensboro just kind of has that spark though. Coin flip, whoever has the ball last.

I can't believe I'm answering this post but here we go. I think they are one dimensional because I think the QB is a C level passer. Unless you're hurt, your arm strength/velocity, mechanics and how the ball looks coming out of your hand doesn't change depending on the opponent. No because if you are a pass heavy team, that makes you one dimensional as well...

In a tough class, I think you have to do both to win. FD had no chance last year against Cov Cath because they couldn't throw the ball at all (BG's guy is much better).

Thanks for posting that.  Wow. BG 14-1 in the last 15. But Owensboro won the last one. 

In the past decade BG has been a statewide dynasty no doubt.  I would rather play them than anyone because you want the best.

Yeah it was painful posting that...Thanks Kevin Wallace!  

Looking back the 2000 Owensboro team was led by Justin Miller a junior standout and Bo Smith a junior standout.  Smith and Miller were both terrific in the 100 meters (2 of the fastest kids I can remember at OHS).  They won the 4x100 that year at state.  Smith played at UK and Miller went to Clemson and started as a freshman at corner back then to the NFL to be All-pro kick returner.  The 2008 team that won was led by Prince at QB and I believe Shemwell at RB (Owensboro adopted more of a spread offense - really a zone read for Prince & Shemwell).  They were also very close in 2009.

The 2014 game was painful...Owensboro had a big lead, then the purples came back to take the lead in the 2nd half behind Carothers - that game was tight.  Owensboro finished state runner up to Highlands that year (in another blown lead game - dangit!)

In 2018, Owensboro adopted the spread with Will Warren at QB and split with the purples (Owensboro had a great set of WR’s - Including Owsley, Hayden and Tinsley who is the star WR now, he had 10 TD’s in 2018 too)

I said all that to say, for Owensboro to win or be very competitive in this series it has taken an outstanding devils team and players.  BG has been a machine.

First game was 1932 BG won 14-13, the next year BG won 12-1 (not sure who was drinking and keeping the score).  Records by decade:

1930’s 4-4 

1940’s 7-3 Owensboro (when it was leather helmets we dominated!)

1950’s 6-3-1 Owensboro 

1960’s 9-0-1 Owensboro 

1970’s 4-1 Owensboro 

1980’s 3-2 Bowling Green

1990’s 11-3 Bowling Green
