Those are the only two other instances of a team getting shutout in their first two games of a postseason series.

So, the Reds weren't far off from making history.

Uh, yes, they did make history, the record for getting shutout to start a series was 20 by those 1921 Giants, it’s now 22 for our boys.

When the players/manager does do something differently than they've done all year...ie: double steal, and it fails...they want to rant about that.  It's a no-win situation.

Here's the way I look at it, you dance with the one who brought you.  If you're a team that made it to the playoffs by swinging away, you swing away.  You don't bunt.  You don't steal.  You don't do anything that you haven't already practiced and applied in-game during the regular season.  This year's Reds squad was built/trained for hitting the long ball.  Trying to turn them into a station-to-station, small-ball team in the playoffs is stupid, in my opinion.  If you want changes, it needs to happen in the off-season and in spring training.  Go ahead, try teaching Castellanos or Aquino to hit it the other way.  See how it goes then.  Trying to have them do it now is just a wasted at-bat.

Not talking about changing their identity, their hitting had VERY little with them making the playoffs anyway, not talking about Suarez, Votto, Moose, etc., squeezing, I’m talking about 2 guys,  and a few more, being prepared to squeeze in a critical game winning run!  Barnhart hit .204 with 5 hr and Farmer hit as many home runs as I did this year, so if those 2 (and a few others!) didn’t get in the cage and become prepared to do that shame on them and shame on Bell for not telling them to!!!!

Sorry to see Nate Jones go.  I thought that overall he did a creditable job, albeit with control issues and the penchant for giving up a home run or two.  Being a local guy, I was hoping he would make good here in Cincinnati.

All summer I heard and read of a clamoring for Aquino.  Well, be careful what you wish for - This guy is a slug of the first water.  Slow, lazy and dumb (as in stupid).     

Hopefully they can sign Bauer.  Need to do whatever it takes.  Fire hitting coach.  Throw computers into the river.  Joey Votto is DH only batting no higher than 7th.  

For 2021, what is the "real" Reds team going to be?  The one we saw before September 12 of this year or the one after?

I enjoyed him too, minus when he was "guessing" the piches...after the catcher put down the signs haha.

YES!!  He just got fired by the Padres for having back to back seasons at the bottom of the rankings in all of MLB!!

I didn't know that.  How does a guy like that get hired for the same job elsewhere?   I mean I know stuff like that happens in sports but geez.

When you consider his age, that is even more troubling.

While I'm sure the Reds players all feel that their playoff bust was a bummer, they won't be in mourning for long.  I'm sure each is planning a lavish vacation in the tropics, out shopping for their next luxury car,  and are already working on next year and future contracts and ways to make more $$$, that don't necessarily include being Cincinnati Reds..

One of my other criticisms of the revolving door roster, is that these players have no allegiance to you the fans, or the city in which they play.   This is why I'd like to see them establish a core group of players, build a team around them, and stick with them and allow them to become a team over a period of years, instead of chess pieces that are interchangable on a monthly basis.  They have got to develop some stability. And we need a core of Cincinnati kind of players.  Guys who get involved with the community and make their off-season homes here.

  

I think that Trevor Bauer likes it here, would be willing to play long-term here, but must think that the Reds are Team Turmoil run by a milk toast managerial staff and ownership, and probably wants to see some indications that they can become winners.

He is definitely a loose cannon, but the guy can pitch, and win if we can get him some runs.  This city fell in love with Bronson Arroyo and he was a flake of the first water, and not half the pitcher that Trevor Bauerr is.  I think with minimal effort and a couple of Jake Sweeney commercials, he could endear himself to the people of Cincinnati the same way that Arroyo did, and/or that Burrow seems to be doing for the Bengals.

 Cincinnati fans LOVE Trevor Bauer, probably more than they ever loved Bronson Arroyo.  It is a shame fans could not get into games so he could appreciate how much Cincinnati fans love him.
