For the people hating on the guy making this thread, as ive said a million times, not everyone has lowered their standards, please repsect that. I will never lower my standards for UK basketball and accept mediocrity My friend that is why you and I deal with the crap we do. Some of us know where we should be, and some of us are accepting where we are. It's in my personality to have high standards and strong expecations. When I started following UK in the mid 90's we were a dominant force. Now we are not even the best team in the SEC. For the people who have accepted Tubby as a great guy and a good coach, mediocre recruiter, please respect the other people who expect UK to be dominant at all times. Not once every few years. Just because we back Tubby, doesn't mean at all that any of us have lowerd are standards too, and so will you please respect that!!! I will never lower my standards for UK and every year I look for them to be competing for the National Title. And well except for last year and I think maybe 01 when we lost in the 2nd round, I believed we had a GREAT chance to win the title come tournament time. So you started following UK in the mid 90's just about close to the time when we went on a huge an incredible run where from 94 to 99 we did no worse than an elite 8 and had 4 final 4 appearances, 3 title game apperances and 2 Championships. So when you started following the program we were on such an incredible run that was probably the second best run in NCAA history behind the great UCLA run. And with the way college bball is today a run like that probably would never happen again either. And you know that was around the same time period when I was old enough to really start following the program closely as well. I though realize that a run like that is a once in a lifetime thing and we probably will never see another team come close what we even did. So it is foolish to think we ever be a dominte force like that ever again. You have before compared us to teams like Duke saying we should be like them because they are still at top program. But do you all not realize that Duke has not done anything lately either. Yeah they do good in the regular season only to get knocked out in the tournament like us. If you go by the last 4 years, UK probably has a better avg finish in the tournament than Duke, and UK is one of the most winningest teams in the country during this time span. Not to mention back in 05 when we lost in double overtime to MSU, guess who they beat the round before pretty easily actually, yeah thats right it was Duke... Ever since that great run we had NO TEAM has been completely dominant anymore. We judge our team by tournament success, well then there is only one team who has been above us since Tubby has been here and that is UCONN because they won 2 titles. So that means they are also above all these other great programs as well... So you all get tired of when people bash you for bashing Tubby, well I personally get tired from you all bashing Tubby and saying since we support Tubby that we lowered all standards because that is not true, and so once again will you PLEASE RESPECT THAT!!!

I agree with the common opinion that Tubby is a great in game coach, but he simply hasn't been getting/keeping the right players these last few years. I am hoping that this changes in the next year or so, and if it doesn't I'd say Tubby's job will probably be somebody else's.

If you want to think that way, think about what would have happened last year with the missing piece to the puzzle IMO; Kelena Azibuke.

Many of us who have "lowered our standards (I know, we're heathens)" started following UK in the mid 70's. We've seen ebbs and flows. If you never see your team struggle, trust me, you don't enjoy the success nearly as much. There were times in the 80's when UK dipped down, and lo and behold, here we are 20 years later and the Earth is still on its axis. Like nearly every other team, in every other sport, there are ups and downs. Believe me, in the 80's, the Yankees were a joke. As were the Packers. As were the Buccaneers. As were the Suns. As were the...you get the point. When your body of fandom is more than just 10 years, and you've seen more than just great years, you'll learn to take the bad years in stride and keep them in perspective.

The mid 90s your just spoiled!!! you should of had to go through the 80s being a fan! No national titles,one final four,The death penality probation!And no Tubby Smith to blame it on.
December 13, 200619 yr I have always tried to be a Tubby supporter, even if I didn't agree with his style, substitution pattern, etc. - but here lately, I've just about had enough. I think Tubby is a class act, but at the University of Kentucky, you have to produce Final Fours and top 10 teams. How many final fours in the 80s? one!
December 13, 200619 yr This game reminds me a lot of last year's game going in (Im not saying I think UK will blow UL out). But neither team has proven themselves as being good yet. Also both teams have several young players playing important roles, particularly in the back court. I think this could potentially be a much higher scoring, more entertaining game than UK-IU. Or maybe its just wishful thinking. :lol:
