Anyone think they've already had coronavirus?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to stay calm but I have allergies and a history of pneumonia, all of which is creeping up right now at the wrong time, so it's freaking me out.

You have been through worse and are self isolating. You will be ok.

How is your friend?

So last night after supper I started to get the shivering fits. Temp of 103.1. Uncontrollable vomiting. So weak I couldn’t sit up, much less stand. Quick trip by ambulance to the hospital here in Maysville.

Because of my advancing age and multiple medical conditions, I was given, among other things, the COVID test. Sixteen hours later it came back negative. No longer in total isolation. Maybe home tomorrow, but maybe not.

I did test positive for strep. They’re trying to reconcile strep with no sore throat. I’ve had multiple x-rays and a CAT scan. Evidently I’m a medical mystery.

I do do feel fortunate to have gotten the test and to have had the quick turnaround on the results.

Bless your heart. Praying for you my friend. Special angels are with you.

Life's not fair. You seem to get your share of dire medical conditions.

Probably withdrawal symptoms.

Get well. Take care!!!

Not too sure. His Facebook post said he's waiting on the test results to see if it's Coronavirus or not and he said it takes 48 hours, which should be tomorrow morning.

He's in his early 40s, so a lot older than me, but not that old.

I replied to his status that I mentioned and he replied that, other than his legs hurting and spitting out parts of his lung, he feels decent.

I posted this in another thread about ten days ago. I want to add, my sense of taste and smell was off for a short period of time too.

Right before Christmas and into January I got knocked on my behind by something (a kind of illness) I had never had before. None of us are special but I want to add I almost never get sick and whatever I had humbled me in a manner of speaking. Also, I have talked to several younger people around NKY that all say pretty much the same thing as you said about WKY Scribe.

Additionally, I was having this discussion with a good friend last night and it sure would be nice to know if I (everyone) that got sick at the end of 2019 could be tested for Rona antibodies. If so, I think it would give us a much better handle on what we are and have been dealing with.

I self quarantined myself for about 17 days when this happened, I didn't need anyone to tell me it was the right thing to do.

Finally, I thought to myself, whatever I have is going to kill a bunch of older and sicker people if they get it.

Is this how you feel when you’ve gotten the flu?

Yes.

Yes.

I don’t believe you. :lol2:

Drives me crazy that, at this stage of events, testing is not more available.

As I understand it, the fastest and easiest way to identify someone as having the virus is by identifying a protein derivative that is created via your body when it forms the antibodies that it makes to fight coronavirus. Long story short, you identify that protein via isolation of some sort of RNA. To do that, you need some very specific chemicals, one of which is somewhat slow/difficult to produce and was essentially never produced in any kind of commercial quantity. The need for the chemical has only come about since the convention of Coronavirus, so essentially, there was never even a capacity to make because there wasn't even a need for it until late January 2020.

How do other countries have all the tests they need?

How do other countries have all the tests they need?

There are about 8 different test concoctions out there in difference countries for detection of the human the antibody that forms once we have the virus, and each has it's own different efficacy. Then there are also about the same number of test versions out there for detecting the actual virus itself.

A lot of folks were following China's lead here on testing, which I believe tested for the actual virus itself. China's test method has been found to be extremely inaccurate. (The Czech Republic ordered 300K of those test kits and 80% of the tests gave false results. The UK bought 3.5 million of those test kits and found that they were all garbage.) The CDC is rushing to find a testing method that is both accurate and quick to return results AS WELL AS being a quick to produce test kit. Again, this is a process that is usually being brought forth after years of testing, and then it's given a stamp of approval for use...COVID-19 has existed now for about 5 months total.

Additionally, the United States' biggest struggle is the number of tests that we need. The United States has administered just shy of 2 million tests, to date. No country in Europe is yet to have tested that many people.

So...."all the tests they need" is kind of a fallacy.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) tests performed in Europe as of April 6, 2020, by country

A very interesting article about the lack of carnage in California and the possibility, if not probability that California benefited from early exposure and already has herd immunity.

New study investigates California's possible herd immunity to COVID-19

Hanson said through all of this the Chinese have been disingenuous about the timing of the initial outbreak of COVID-19.

"They originally said it was in early January, then it got backdated to December and then early December and now they are saying as early as November 17," said Hanson.

If Californians were exposed earlier than the rest of the country to COVID-19 we may have had a chance to build up some herd immunity to the disease. We won't know if that is the case until results from the Stanford Medicine study come back.

In mid-January I was in San Diego and happen to notice an apparent young Chinese couple on the outbound flight to Atlanta. I noticed they where wearing surgical mask. But attributed it to something you see when Asians are traveling at times.

I noticed the same in Vegas as well at the end of December. I really think places like Vegas, New York and Orlando were likely hot bed places for it to be brought to the United States from China and then spread throughout the country when people returned home from their vacations.

Hard to tell if it was here then but I wouldn't be surprised if it was on some level.

Interesting

Coronavirus 'Patient Zero' May Have Started Pandemic In November or Earlier

- Leaked documents suggest the Chinese government first knew about the coronavirus in November.

-The Chinese government still can’t confirm whether they’ve found Patient Zero, suggesting that the first actual case may be earlier than November.

- Many now suspect China had COVID-19 longer than initially perceived.

Coronavirus has been with us for longer than you think. According to documents seen by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the Chinese government first detected a case of COVID-19 on Nov. 17. Yet it still hasn’t been able to confirm that this case really is the fabled “Patient Zero.”

Officially, the coronavirus didn’t exist until Dec. 31. The new leak of government documents therefore pushes the discovery of COVID-19 back by several weeks.

In other words, the first person to have had the coronavirus may have caught it even earlier than November. That;s why people who had pneumonia in December and January now suspect they already had the novel virus.
