March 17, 20206 yr I just flew across country a couple of weeks ago, right before the you know what hit the fan. While I don't think people in general should be flying, there are plenty of legit reasons why someone might need to fly, so I'm not in favor of shutting the airlines down completely.

So we are just going to let a bunch of for profit corporations make decisions based on what is best for their bottom line? If we are going to be consistent, we have to shut down the airlines.
March 17, 20206 yr I'm assuming the only people flying are those that have to. Very little, if any casual travel right now. Airlines running on this low of capacity are hemorrhaging money. I'd say available flights will drop dramatically at every airport. With nearly 750,000 people employed by US airlines, I hope they aren't left to sink.

Latest from family member who is pilot is that they are at 30 to 40% load factors. Given most flights were full before this they are down over 1/2 and down to a 1/3 right now.

Guessing they're losing big money with those load factors. They will be cutting flights in a very short time. The airlines survived 911, they will get past this also.

Countries like New Zealand and France are now encouraging citizens to return home from overseas - "while commercial options remain available."

The airlines employ a large number of people, and will be a difficult industry to restart if the big boys fail, because there is such a large barrier of entry to get into the market. Letting the major airlines fail, will disrupt travel and every major industry. It's a huge domino effect.

March 18, 20206 yr I would look for some changes, I work at cvg, they have taken all the chairs out of the food court, have the tables roped off or removed, you can still get food and take to your gate and eat, bars are closed, and that’s a huge business at airports, one interesting thing, as of Tuesday, the smoke room in terminal b was open and doing well. Monday travel was down around 30 per cent we was told, I’m sure it’s probaly more now, I go back tomorrow and should have some numbers. Would not surprise me and this is just my thoughts, only if the planes seats are not full, to only have one person in each row and at the check point only allow 50 people in and keep,everyone spaced out.
