March 17, 20206 yr Does anyone reading this really think it is going to be only a two week holiday? It is looking more like an eight week minimum shutdown, right? Plan on kids not going back to school.
March 17, 20206 yr I hope those estimates are wrong, but I don't think we will ever know because the majority of cases will go undiagnosed and therefore not a part of the statistical matrix. I just want to know where the line in the quarantine sand is for everyone, at what point do we shut everything down. We already know that 34 thousand deaths a year in America is not enough. I get what you are saying. I think we are now setting a precedent that, this is what will happen anytime something comes up. Swine flu, H1N1, and whatever other ones that came up before that weren’t good either, but we didn’t panic or shutdown everything over it. Yet now when new things come up even like those, you will have people calling for a shut down like we are for this. This may be setting a precedent that happens over and over and that is something to worry about too IMO. Edited March 17, 20206 yr by futurecoach

Furthermore, what if one of our enemies unleashes something new from their "lab" once or twice or a year? Your response is really what I am getting at fc, we are setting a precedent for almost total shutdown.

Which if people want to cripple our country, that is what it will take if we shut down every time. Our economy will keep going down, businesses will have to keep shutting down. People will be out of jobs, etc. I’m hoping this is a one time thing, but I do think this is setting up to be a precedent that is called for now anytime something comes up.
March 17, 20206 yr Does anyone reading this really think it is going to be only a two week holiday? No because people like you are being hard-headed about the whole thing. You only have yourselves to thank.
March 17, 20206 yr No because people like you are being hard-headed about the whole thing. You only have yourselves to thank. That is a valid point. If we did a hard shut down at the signs of the first cases in a state or even perhaps a city, then 2-3 weeks should be all it would take. But let undiagnosed people socialize in public for a week or two before the hard shut down and we get where we are today, looking at 2-3 months instead of weeks.

As of now over half the states have not yet gone to the extent as here. Thus, if Kentucky is late in this process then a lot of other states are way behind. A question may be if all are not going along with the hard shutdowns will this work?
March 17, 20206 yr As of now over half the states have not yet gone to the extent as here. Thus, if Kentucky is late in this process then a lot of other states are way behind. A question may be if all are not going along with the hard shutdowns will this work? Good point. Many might point to the Philadelphia/St. Louis dichotomy during the 1918 flu as showing it will work, however, distance today is not the barrier or "fire wall" it was 102 years ago. So if the whole country is not on board, who knows?
March 18, 20206 yr As of now over half the states have not yet gone to the extent as here. Thus, if Kentucky is late in this process then a lot of other states are way behind. A question may be if all are not going along with the hard shutdowns will this work? Any state not on shutdown at this point is making a big mistake. Wherever the line is, no doubt we have crossed it at this point.
March 26, 20206 yr Author Since many of us are posting some statistics I thought this was a good one to share, so far the amount of deaths worldwide attributed to COVID-19 is just over 23,000. According to the the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) they estimate that the amount of deaths worldwide attributed to influenza each year is approximately 389,000.
April 23, 20206 yr Author I posted this in another thread but I thought it belonged here too. For those of you that want to dismiss any flu/covid comparisons consider the following when it comes to minors. According to the CDC the 2017-2018 influenza season is estimated to be responsible for 61,099 deaths in America. Of those 61,099 deaths 643 of them were minors under 18 years of age. I looked at several different articles on minor deaths due to COVID-19 and in some countries none are reported and in Italy only 2 deaths of minors have been reported. The following is from VOX quoting the CDC: Influenza, also caused by a virus that infects the airways, can be a very serious illness in children. Complications from influenza, like a subsequent bacterial pneumonia infection, can be fatal. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, since September, 144 children have died in the US from influenza in the current season as of March 7. Meanwhile, there have been no reported deaths from Covid-19 among children in the US so far. =============== Coming full circle here by what I see when you compare Influenza deaths to COVID-19 deaths it is clear that Influenza is much, much more deadly to minors.

Again, you’re comparing annualized flu numbers vs 6 weeks of corona virus numbers. And people keep minimizing the CV virus by saying it only kills old people, as if older folks are now expendable.
April 23, 20206 yr Author Again, you’re comparing annualized flu numbers vs 6 weeks of corona virus numbers. And people keep minimizing the CV virus by saying it only kills old people, as if older folks are now expendable. I am pointing out the flu is very deadly and we don't do anything about it, zero.
April 23, 20206 yr Meanwhile, there have been no reported deaths from Covid-19 among children in the US so far. Are you sure this is correct?
April 23, 20206 yr Author Are you sure this is correct? I am going to assume as of March 7th that is correct. Either way it doesn't matter for purposes of the larger discussion. Look at Italy, two deaths of minors from coronavirus. Moving forward, I am sure there are in fact some minor deaths and anyone that finds them please post the numbers but the point is minors are mostly immune from death due to COVID19.
