I would have to put Lynn Ray old CCH coach. 5 state titles and put the Colonels on the map. I believe he was there for like 30 yrs.

...also responsible for a few of HHS' titles:banana: ...EASY, just a joke !!!!

I wouldn't want to single out anyone as the greatest....but with all the names mentioned in this thread, state championships won and players sent to College, along with the NFL....I think that says what tremendous amount of coaching talent, the state of Kentucky has been blessed with.

Some outstanding names listed and many more deserving.

Great list and some great additions mentioned also.

Ed Miracle definitely belongs on the list, what an amazing run.

Garnis Martin of Bardstown hasn't been mentioned.

Ivan Mcglone and Philip Haywood deserve the ink also.

Overall, I think my vote would go to Yeagle. Nobody has matched that success in such a short period of time, although Harp has been close and what Smith did at Boyle is awesome.

Do you mean because he was kind enough to lose so often to the Birds?

I would add to the list...Walter Brugh-Paintsville

Dan Haley - Appeared in the Title game in four different decades with three different schools. Among the top 10 in all time wins.

Name the schools and the years?I know of 5 coaches that took 2 different schools to the State finals. Joe Jaggers(Trigg County twice and Ft. Knox four times)Tom Duffy( Danville twice and Highlands twice)Dudley Hilton(Bell County once and Bourbon once) Pat Gates(Crittenden county and Caldwell)Marty Jaggers(Lincoln once and Mercer once)I think Coach Haley took Bryan Station once and Thilgman once and Bowling green twice.

Dan Haley Finals

1969 Bryan Station

1973 Paducah Tilghman

1980 Paducah Tilghman

1994 Bowling Green

1995 Bowling Green

Is as great a man as he was a coach. When you messed up, he didn't cuss you, he just looked disapointed and you felt as though you'd let your own father down when it mattered most.

Joe Jaggers has to be mentioned. Retired as the all time winningest coach in state history. Led two different teams to state championships,Ft. Knox and Trigg County, neither school had ever done it before and neither have done it since he left. Won 5 state championships with 1 runner-up.

Randy Reese won three state titles ... 2 @ Paris and 1 @ Ludlow

I know this is a homer type pick but who can go against Ivan "The Great" McGlone of Russell or even Mr. Haywood down in Pond Creek at Beflry

When Beatty retires, it will be him. 6 appearances in 7 years, and 5 titles. A national top 5 ranking and best KY team of all time in 02.

Takes a good man to be a good coach and if he ever stoops so low as to cuss a child he can't be classified as either.

One that deserves some mention is Dan Goble: 1973 Lead Shelby County to a 10-1 season the school's best ever at that time. In the mid 70's lead Atherton to a 10-1 record with a win ovr St.X the school's best record ever. In the early 80's lead Christian County to 2 4A titles the only school ever to win 2 4A titles outside of Louisville. Also was the offense coordinator at Earl Langer Loyld and help them win their first state title in the late 60's. Now coaches the QB's at Hopkinsville High School. Goble played high school football at Prestonsburg(eastern kentucky) coached in northern kentucky, louisville, and western Kentucky.
