Ohio State played well enough most of this game to win it. This loss is squarely on the coaches shoulders. The moment got too big for him at times and he got way too conservative in the red-zone. Ohio State had their way with the Clemson defense, moving the ball at will. They used spacing to counter Clemson's speed most of the game, but not when they kept kicking FG's early. They should have put it away early on, but just could not get it done.

 

Once Clemson got their feet under them, it was game on. I think Clemson being there the last 4 years in the playoffs, prepared them for the emotional swings of this game.

 

Ohio State Defense played better than I expected...they hadn't played a team with both a dynamic QB and run game all year. In the end it was the QB running that did them in. I thought their DB's played really good.

 

Ohio State will be right back here next year, as will Clemson.

 

Completely agree, especially with the first paragraph. That is why I was saying was way to early to write Clemson out. As much as OSU was dominating, they never were able to make it more of a two score game. All it took was one play to change the whole momentum of that game. OSU could have ended that game in the first quarter and a half if they score tds in the red zone and not drop passes.

This was a great game, but why do you say it was the National Championship game? Going into today LSU basically was considered by everyone to be one of the top two teams and what they did today to the number four team doesn’t change that.

 

There are three great teams in college football. Two of them played against each other tonight. Now the one advancing gets to play the other great team in college football.

100% agree. Ohio State could/should have put this out of reach early. They allowed Clemson to get up when they were ready to quit. From the time they kicked that third FG on, it was pretty much all Clemson. It easily could have been 28 to 0 or even 24 to 0 at that point. You have to give Clemson defense some credit for bending and only breaking once early on.

Wish Woody was roaming the sidelines. The ref that overturned the fumble needed to get one up side the head.

I feel like this was a national championship caliber game. I'm hoping LSU and Clemson is this good and not a blowout.

No ones brought it up but what about the fourth and 2 punting the ball with 3 minutes left? They went for it earlier and scored a touchdown. With all the momentum and the fact they had already ate a lot of clock I was surprised they didn’t go for it again. You get that, Clemson has two timeouts and there’s about 3 minutes left that’s ball game.

 

Hell of a game either way.

A huge play not mentioned was the Clemson player barely being able to dive and trip JK up on what was almost his second long td run early in the game. He barely tripped him up inside the ten after a huge run. OSU then only ended up getting a field goal. Just goes to show players to never give up on a play, him diving and tripping him up probably saved the game.

Exactly, dozens of plays like that could have flipped the game.
